First time Varifocals!

I picked up my new Varifocal glasses yesterday. I appreciate it is really really early days. (Can take up to 4 weeks to get used to) My problem is, I cannot see my pc very well.
Reading a book the vision is good, so why can't I see my pc properly. Apparently it can be a problem.
I am using my normal reading glasses. They seem so much clearer than the varifocals.

As for driving, I'll keep my old glasses on for that!:)

Anyone got any advice or thoughts?

I am quite new to varifocals and found it hard at first, you just need to get used to looking through the right bit but it does get easier.
I wear mine for driving as I struggle to see the dials and sat nav otherwise.
What I find hardest is doing DIY, whilst fixing a curtain rail the other day I had to practically hang upside down to focus properly.
If you haven't got used to them in a couple of weeks it might be worth going back just in case a mistake has been made with your prescription.

I use varifocals, I've used them for about seven years now, ever since I needed reading glasses.

I find that whenever I get a new pair, I need a couple of days to get used to them - it's just a matter of learning where to look and what angle to hold your head.

After a couple of days it's fine and I'm doing it automatically, I don't even think about it anymore.

I use my varifocals for everything, as I can't be doiing with swopping glasses all the time.

I'd suggest giving it a few days, and you'll get used to them in no time at all

You may find you normally look down when you read a book, but when looking at your monitor you should be looking horizontally, what you need to do is tip your head a little further back so youre looking through the reading section.

Having said that, I couldn't use varifocals at all, even after 3 or 4 weeks I was getting nasty sinus type headaches and eventually got a full refund because my prescription should never have been sold as varifocals in the first place, something to do with astigmatism I believe.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I just recently got a new pair of varifocals and was very surprised how long it took me to get used to them,It took me about 3 weeks to get used to them so I think you should give it a few weeks.

Your problem with the computer screen is that the position of the screen relative to you is such that when you are sitting comfortably you are viewing the screen through the wrong part of the lens.

You need to change your position, or that of the screen, so that you are comfortably looking through the part of the lens that allows you to read the screen easily.

I had that problem at work but found by placing a cushion on my seat to raise my line of sight meant that all became much clearer.

It could be that the prescription is just wrong - it happened to me. Also, I once had a pair that had flaws in the glass causing a ripple effect. Give it a few days - (but you will know if it's not right at all), then take them back for a refund if necessary.

    Thanks everyone.

I managed to wear them until midday at work. I work as a cleaner, so my head is up, down and all over the place. I found by then i was starting to feel a bit sick.
    Will "try" and persevere.

I have worn varifocals now for 14 years - I have always gone for the best varifocal lenses the optician offers and I am assured the way they grade the lens from the reading prescription to the looking prescription is much better on the better quality lenses. Hard to desdribe but if you think of the little semi circle shape at the bottom of bi-focals that is what you have but instead of being cut into the main lens it is gradually changed so you cannot see the difference. If you sit at the normal distance from your screen and look at this print it should be clear to read. It will then blur if you turn your head from side to side slowly and up and down slowly but keep your eyes on the print. If it blurs too quickly in the middle part of the lens then you need to go back and see if you can get better lenses.

I got them from specsavers, upgraded to the Premium, perhaps I should have gone for the Elite or Tailor Made.

For the print to be really clear I have to look right at the bottom.

Now, if I am hoovering, what part of the lens should I be looking through.:)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Look straight at yourself in the mirror, exactly the level your eyes are and the lens area above that is your distance vision (think tv and beyond), then just below eye level is where your intermediate vision falls (sort of arms length, so where a desktop PC monitor would be) then gradually the vision gets closer and closer to the bottom of the frame where it will you give you the closest vision (eg. threading a needle).
For desktop PC monitor, your eye level should sit at the top of the screen (yes this goes against most back prob health and safety stuff) so just below is the vision your using. Swing your head from side to side slowly and you will see the vision blur in and out so you can identify the width of vision you've got, this will help to get to know where to get things into focus. (nodding up and down helps you to identify which strength is best for the task.

    Good luck.
