My little ones, grandbabies, love cars too. They get lots of fun out of their car transporter from ELC.

There are a number of board games start from age 3, in particular Orchard board games are fun.
ELC normally have lots of ideas. My sons liked plastic food and cups a saucers and 'lets pretend' type games.
    Craft items.
You really don't need lots even if you have the money. Time is the most precious thing you can give anyone!

Thanks everyone. I spent a few hours on Amazon last night and now have a massive wishlist...lol. Although I will pick the stuff up cheaper as I see it as some of the prices on there are scary. I would love him to have a big pile but am happy enough using empty boxes and balloons to do this, I don't intend to spend any money that I don't need to.

Thanks stormbreaker for the board game ideas. I had looked as he loves the Elefun advert, but didn't see any suitable but will now search for Orchard. We spend all day every day with him, and make sure we have at least an hour where is is playing with him as well as having a few hours in the evening for bath and play and stories, so he will have lovely memories of all that...even if it is in photos as he won't really remember. But he will know that he is loved and that is more important than any present, so thank you for reminding me...xx

My lo likes hungry hippos, elefun (there is also a winnie the pooh version my niece has which was really cheap in home bargains) and whac-a-mole. Might be some ideas
And have you looked at the fisher price imaginext range? My eldest ds has a lot of things from this and I can't reccomend it enough! It's really robust and my ds1 and ds2 have spent many hours with it.

It can seem a lot of money at first but will last years. Ds1 is 7 at christmas and he got the rocket (from memory was £42) on his 2nd birthday and its still going strong haven't ever had to change the batteries! And its been played with a lot by both boys.... And my dd (but im forbidden to tell anyone that she sometimes plays with boys toys lol!)

Although I would say dont bother with the batman range, the vehicles are ok but the bat cave (£65when we bought it last christmas) its the only imaginext toy thats ever broken! And there's really not much to do!

We have the full space themed range and it has been a brilliant buy.

Last Christmas we bought our almost 2 year old nephew this scooter: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3676912.htm
You adjust the number of wheels as they get bigger/better at using it, it starts off with 4 wheels, then remove one of the front ones to make a 3 wheeler, then remove a back wheel so it ends up a 2 wheeler. Definitely a good present idea, not too expensive, and it folds basically in half, so storage isn't a problem!

I am glad you posted about this. I have been thinking about investing in this for Christmas for DS1 (also have a 4 month old DS2 so will get plenty of use). I have already bought an aircraft carrier - as was only £14.99 reduced.

Can you recommend any other sets that would be worth buying. I wouldn't say money is no object but I am not bound by a budget.

Leapad is good if your little one plays around with your own ipad / phone. I got my little nephew one last xmas when he was 2 and half. Also what about duplo / or playmobile they are well made and last ages. If you are looking at things to do with him what about play doh, messy but fun.

My nephew has got the Fisher-Price Imaginext Ocean Boat and loves it. Currently half price in argos for £27.50. He also has the submarine set.
