Yes, I've seen the YouTube videos making wifi antennas but they all seem a bit Heath Robinson. Do they actually work ? I assume one antenna plugs into the Sky router and the other mounted on the remote building into the Alfa AWUS036H, which plugs into the Internet camera and/or laptop. Would an iPhone see it as well ?

I have bought a Maplin corner antenna and two different ebay yagis. One of the two yagis peformed better than the rubber antenna that came with the Alfa, but the rest of the antennas performed far worse.

The biquad has a good reputation and the one built into a cd container is apparently quite good. The exact dimensions and construction bend techniques are paramount. They use copper wire but aluminium wire would also work, but the dimensions will probably be slightly different, so just do as the instruction says.

This is my favourite construction method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1XZcouXsp0

about connecting an iphone. The original question was for 'a connection'. Mobiles and a good few laptops generally have poorish wifi antennas. Also the description mentioned here deals with one connection, rather than multiple ones.

There are other ways than this, but probably more compicated. For an iphone or multiple connections, what you want to do needs a setup same as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdVpjy7UGN8

If there is any way you could get a cable there, then it really is a practical solution, Cat 5 is good over lengths of up to approximately 100 metres, we have actually installed a working overhead Cat 5 (internet) cable at around 120 metres! Obviously it would mean a substantial investment, but it would be less dependant on weather etc.

As I have said this is the other side of a public road, so I'm afraid a cable run is impossible. Wireless is the only way, if this it is possible.

May want to check the legal power output for the wifi, it is a lot less strict in USA, whereas Europe is about 100mw (not a hundred percent on that). Those from radio labs are 100mw, plus with the db gain. Chances of ofcom finding out are extremely slim, but possible.

You can buy similar equipment in this country. TP-Link do Access points with detachable aerial's and external directional aerials. On amazon cost is about £120 for 2 range extenders and 2 external 14db gain aerials.
