Checked your page out, you look nice and so does your giraffe. :D (From what I could see of it, lol.
I got a phone call just before 9am saying 'Mum, quick-tickets on sale at 9am - help'.
He's at work stuck so I'm gonna wind him up a bit about not getting a ticket for him. (Even although I did ;) )

Thanks! :) The giraffe was much fun. We even had a smaller version at our wedding. Its a long story lol!
Have you told him you got the tickets yet?
Had a great time, although I couldn't get there on Friday due to the traffic.

Its a shame the traffic was so bad. I felt really bad telling you to drive each day when the !!!!!!! car parks ended up like they did. Glad you made most of it tho! If you register a ticketmaster account you can save your address and card details which is much easier. All i needed to do was pick what card I wanted to use and the job was done.

The carparks were absolutely fine, the stuff about them being closed was complete scaremongering nonsense. I panicked a bit when reading that on Saturday morning and nearly sold my ticket but decided to chance it anyway. I parked in number 11 which is the furthest away on the main road and got straight out at night with no queue at all - I was also first to arrive and didn't have to pay cos they weren't ready. :D On Sunday I was in carpark 9 which was nearer but they appeared to prevent anyone leaving for at least an hour after I got back to my car - it then took another hour to make it out the gate at which point we were directed down miles of single track instead of up towards the main road. Ended up in the middle of flaming nowhere heading the wrong way towards Kincardine.

On Friday I hit stationary traffic with 7 miles to go at 4:45pm, after half an hour I'd only moved half a mile so just turned round and came home as there was no point. Driving back early on Saturday morning it was like Armageddon had happened along the road, the mess was shocking.:eek::mad:

By the way, with a camping ticket you can leave the Arena by any exit but you have to come in through the campsite which is a good hours walk from the carparks. It's a ridiculous set-up.

I am registered at Ticketmaster but was in the process of buying tickets when I realised I didn't know my password... by the time I'd requested a new one and opened Hotmail in another window the tickets disappeared. As I said, it's a frustrating system! If I'd known the tickets were going on sale today I'd have been more prepared! Got there in the end though. :T
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...

The traffic gave me a numb bum :(

But everything else was amazing - The fact that I was on TV a few times AND got barrier spot for every act that I stayed for a full set [give or take 1 or 2] twas the best T yet!! =]

ALTHOUGH, They did get rid of the Signing Tent!! How DARE they?!:mad::mad:
  • One-non-blonde - I can imagine how you were feeling about the travel thing as I went through a whole roller coaster ride on how to get there and back without my car. I'm wondering if you have a similar problem (even if it's manifesting itself in a different way) with the organisers of T in the Park i.e. you don't trust them.

I went on the Saturday by bus instead of car (as originally planned) after hearing about traffic problems - didn't see all car parks but the one we passed on the bus had a significant amount of soft mud at the entrance which was going to need a lot of attention to get cars through it.
The car park itself had some deep muddy bits where it had seen the heaviest amount of traffic but there were also plenty of green spaces to park on - the issue was access to the parking - at least on that car park.

Initially I had thought - Oh they don't want the traffic congestion so they are telling people not to use cars - but after seeing how difficult it would have been to get into that particular car park, I can imagine what it could have been like when they initially advised people not to drive.

Its the first time I had used the bus (from Edinburgh in my case) and it was OK - waiting time short and not full of idiots. The thought of getting it had been difficult as we had to get into Edinburgh and then get a night bus home from Edinburgh but I'm glad we did - at least it meant no sitting in traffic for hours and we could both have a drink.

I think the issue with T in the Park might be that people don't trust the organisers as it they seem determined to rip people off at every opportunity.

For example - my OH noted that we could have got a bus for £4 each to Dundee from Edinburgh so why did we have to pay £18 return for a shorter distance to Balado.

Then there is the issue with the plastic cups - I don't have a problem with paying a deposit to encourage people to recycle them but at 10 pence, a lot of people won't bother (many would rather throw the cup and half their expensive lager over the crowd in front of them).
It seemed to be a token effort at trying to claim some environmental friendly qualities for the festival - I asked if I could pay 40p less for the 4 small bottles of wine, when the barmaid asked if I needed cups, but she said I couldn't.
I took the cups, didn't use them (easier to carry unopened bottles around) and took them straight back to the recycling point next to the bar - where they put them in a black bag (40p returned).
I asked the girl what would happen to the cups but she didn't know.
It really annoyed me however as I felt that the organisers were just fleecing people - 10p isn't a lot but it builds up if 2 people are drinking heavily over a weekend. It's more the principle of it really - I recycle everything possible at home and I will do it elsewhere when the opportunity is there so it really got me that I would be paying T extra for something I didn't want or need.

Apologies people for rambling a bit - I guess you could say I am angry.

I thought the festival was great in a lot of ways but they have to cut out a lot of the profiteering - I can be the only person who has a problem with that.

As for next year - my registered credit card expiry date was up and although I tried to find a way past that by updating it during the checkout process for the earlybird tickets yesterday, I couldn't get it through. Had to start over again and missed out on tickets.
Anyone know when the next sales are likely to be?

No your'e not - these blog posts make quite interesting reading (warning contains strong language):

By the way, do you know about the Outsider festival [ http://www.outsiderfestival.co.uk/front.html ] (first one was June this year, near Aviemore but I think it's going to be an annual event?) A music festival but also with a big emphasis on environmental issues as well. I really enjoyed it, but I think I prefer the smaller festivals anyway - like Heb Celt Fest, the ones on SKye and Rhum and the Outsider. Would have loved to have seen the Killers though :)

I'd better make a point of correcting my typing before I start on this post -I made a small typo in my post that you replied to - I meant to say "I can't be the only person" rather than "I can be".

Anyway, with that out the way....

I had a look at the Outsider Festival and thought it is a great idea - just not for me this year as I can't do sports as I'm injured at present and the line up of music just didn't grab me enough on this occasion.
I could say I hope it grows but then that could bring the commercialism of a T in the Park, so I'll just keep it to, hopefully there is enough for the people who return next year (and maybe for me too).

Your views on the smaller festivals are certainly valid as far as I'm concerned, I went to Prestonpans Music and Ale Festival this year and it was great. A fairly big band in the Levellers and some "on the up" Scottish bands and importantly, a tent showcasing local bands - see HERE for details. Cost £15 entry (no booking fee as I didn't buy from ticketmaster).

I've had a look at some of the other festival in Scotland too but might only catch one for a variety of reasons - I don't want to hijack this thread as it is mainly about T in the Park so I think it might be worth taking some of this stuff on to a new thread to discuss festivals in Scotland (including T).

Interesting links you provided and maybe they back up the need for a new thread on Scottish festivals - I'm one of the sad people who tried to get a ticket for next year as despite the many down sides, I really enjoyed the music and the fact that people were generally friendly, willing to help you out and up for a few laughs - so I would do it again but maybe if there were alternatives bringing in the big acts then I could go elsewhere (and hopefully get out of the way of the diddys that think it's cool to throw their beer over people).

Killers were great - I was talked into seeing them by my OH. I wanted to see The View but they were on at the same time and I stopped someone coming back from the View who said we had no chance of getting in even for a little of the gig as it was packed out.
  • New thread up and running Here to get a bit discussion going about pros and cons of different festivals.
Thanks Emms for getting this one going and I hope I haven't hijacked too much of the T in the Park space with other stuff.

It will take you just as long in a car as it will on a bus ;)

It took me 7 hours to drive 15 miles from the Kincardine Bridge to Balado

Jeez thats pretty bad! From the central belt we normally head up via Stirling and go through Dollar and in that way and we never had any problems although I imagine it would have been a lot worse this year. Thankfully we were staying in Glenrothes and it took us 15 mins to drive there (plus the 40 minute walk lol) I dont think they are doing the Friday again next year so that should make things a bit easier.

but it was worse for you guy's, my OH travelled the same route as you.
A friend of mine left early from Aberdeen, got there for 11am and my bus was only just leaving Aberdeen at that time.
So makes sense for me to drive next year. This is the first time it has ever been this bad and that's simply down to them having band's on the Friday night. Everyone trying to get there at once. With band's startin back of 11 on a Sat it gives people time to get there between a Friday and Sat. I didnt like it on the Friday either, I was too shattered to enjoy anything after all that flippin traveling, by time my tent got pitched and we got into the park, I was blah!.
I still enjoyed enjoyed the Sat and Sun obviously ;)
but next year I'll be more prepared for the Friday start!
I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down
