What is the point of mini usb?

Is the micro the same as on a Blackberry charger?0 -
BB Charger USED TO BE Mini USB.
blondeonblonde - can you post a pic of your connector? It does seem odd. It would be done to save space on small devices like phones and cameras, so not really necessary on a car stereo. What make/model? Is this a cable you're talking about, and if so, have you followed it to the other end (maybe in the glovebox or something) where you might find a full size USB connection?!!!0 -
almiller, it depends on the car stereo's internal design - it could be they simply didn't have room for a full sized one.
IIRC my new car has a stereo that has a line in on the stereo face plate, but the USB input is down between the 12v sockets, where on many cars there would be an ash tray (the design allows of the buttons on the stereo to be much bigger and for a better display).0 -
It may be that the port is only to let you connect to a PC to update the stereo/GPS/connect diagnostic equipment0

"We had been told the Spark we would drive had a USB port, so we immediately whipped out an iPod cable to listen to music and test the interface. But instead of a full-blown port for an iPod cable, the Spark merely had a Mini-USB port mounted near the stereo. A Chevrolet representative told us that a mini to full-size USB adapter was available from the dealers, and that the car did have full iPod integration."0 -
Thanks Andy - ridiculous decision by Chevrolet then. Nilrim - there's plenty of space in an entire car for a full USB port instead of mini, I doubt there's anything special about this stereo that squeezes the design so much!0

Yes, my full size USB port is not part of the stereo at all, it's part of the centre console, built into an area next to the cup holders and adjacent to the power socket (or cigarette lighter if that option is chosen).0 -
