What is the point of mini usb?

I recently got a new car and am cross because it has a mini usb socket on the stereo....
What is the point of this as you cannot connect a memory stick or ipod 7th or even charge your phone? :mad:

You can almost certainly get a mini usb to ipod cable.
the main reason for mini usb connectors is because they can be fitted into places where a full size one wouldn't, either because of the size of the item (IE some mp3 players, and many phones would be hard pushed to have a full size one), or because the space on the available facia is limited (IE on a car stereo you have a fixed facia size, and you might not have room alongside things like the buttons, displays and CD loader).0 -
Can't see why it won't do both. Have a look at the car manual and see what it says.
That was just the first one I came across, bear in mind it's shipped from hong kong. There will likely be alternative UK sellers that might charge a bit more on the likes of ebay and amazon.0 -

That makes sense I suppose
any idea if you can get a mini usb to lightning cable? bought a new ipod especially and ebay only shows old ipod connections
