O/S Daily Monday 5th August 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Back in work this morning so another fly by visit.

Expect it to be a long and painful day as am told redundancy consultation notices went out on Friday and every single job is under threat :(

Something with lamb mince, green beans and courgettes for dinner - that's a recipe challenge if I ever heard one! Cold omelettes and sausage for lunches.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Dull cloudy and raining here this morning, it's very wet underfoot so has been raining since the early hours.

DH and DS1 up and off to work stupid early.

Lunch yesterday was a roasted chicken, with hot new potatoes, salad and coleslaw/pasta salad, dessert from the fridge. Tonight we will be having pork chops, new potatoes, veg and gravy. There's been a bit of a change of plan due to DS1 going to work with DH, DS2 is going to the outlaws this morning and is staying over until I finish work tomorrow, then I will go and collect him. Hairdresser is coming tomorrow night so everyone needs to be here so we're all tidy for our hols.

We did manage to get more jobs done in preparation for our hols, more items taken to the caravan and awning, poles, annexe, flooring all now safely stowed in the van ready, and also had a panic when we couldn't find some all important clamps that hold the whole thing up and together - but we've found them and they are now with awning in the van. Also have managed to get some items that were laying around the house sorted - either got rid, put away etc, so house is now feeling much tidier - will try to have another go at tidying when I get in from work as will have a small window of opportunity then - may grab some of the clothes that are washed, dried and ironed that I know people will want to take and put them in the suitcase so no-one wears them! Now starting to feel some excitement about our hols - feels like it's been a long time coming and the last time we actually had a holiday from work and went away was last summer - we do spend a lot of weekends away but as we're so involved we spend a lot of those weekends doing stuff/working - but we both do like to be involved and giving back something. My paid work is now horrendously busy and stressful and like everyone else is not secure - have had the threat of redundancy twice in the past 2 years and it will be on the cards again within the next 12 months. I've got to a point now where I'm fed up of worrying and making myself feel ill over it all - I'm just doing my job the best I can under the circumstances we're faced with and whatever happens is going to happen and we'll deal with whatever happens when it happens! No doubt work today will be horrendous as it's a Monday and the beginning of the month! I'm now going to drop DS2 off to the outlaws before I go to work so need to leave a little earlier.

Take care if you're out in the sun and remember the sun cream x (Or more appropriately today remember your raincoat/umbrella!)

    Keep safe and well x

Islandmaid, it will be a welcome break for you and hubby.
JackieO, hope you get on ok at the dentist.
Everywhere is nice and tidy and all hoovered. Washing is up to date, well for the moment anyway. Probably have a basket full tomorrow. Need to get the ironing done.
No idea what we are having for tea yet. Will have to have a rummage in the freezer.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Mornin all.

Sorry to hear the news on the job front. Hope there is a silver lining somewhere.

I've tons to do today. The girls are going to a dance club this morning so I can't decide to have a swim - only 20 lengths to de stress and have some me time or to finish the bits at home which will also make me feel better?

The rest of the day includes sorting out the tv that died, smear, girls normal dance club so will be a busy one.

Miserable weather here so do I use the dryer? Decisions, decisions!

  • Hi all,
Grey and wet outside today. Nice relief from the hot weather! Off to work soon - I got up and had a shower then made the mistake of getting back into bed for a bit... Now I don't want to get up!
Last day at work today until 16th! I'm hoping I can get an early finish. Need to go into town to look in a few clothes shops for my BF and I might treat myself to a coconut bubble tea from Chinatown :-) if I finish work early I can do that today, otherwise it will have to be tomorrow!
Roasted a chicken yesterday so need to pull that to bits today. Also want to bake a cake, can't decide between lemon drizzle or coffee!!
Hope you all have a good day!

    Morning all,

Looks like another nice day here, will get the wm on the go after this. TTFTM. good luck for today, redundancy is not too bad, each day I am feeling a bit more relieved and stress free, the pressure gone from me is amazing, I just need to find another job now :D

Today I need to do an online shop, and have a quick tidy through down stairs, I may then tackle the fireplace in our bedroom, its not an original one, its a horrible brick one that someone has put in and painted white and it needs to be knocked out, so may do that, the skirting boards also need to come off, a messy day today :D

Quiche for dinner with new spuds and salad, need to get it made before I start the DIY otherwise I wont want to do it.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all

    Morning everyone,

Halight Glad that you had a good holiday.

TTFTM Fingers crossed for your job.

Hester Glad that your recovery continues.

    Molly, LW, Hilstep, Julie Hugs.

I have been in London for the weekend as OH did the 100 mile Ride London bike ride yesterday. He set off with Boris Johnson but said that he he soon left Boris far behind!
I had a lovely afternoon sitting in Green Park waiting for him to finish, mind you I have never seen so much lycra in my life!

DD1 and DD2 are on camp this week and DS has lots of extra shifts at work so I have time to get the packing done for our holiday.
We are off to Spain next week for a week and then immediately going for a week in Wales with some friends, can't wait.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

ETA Has anyone else read Me Before You? I have just finished it and I thought that it was brilliant.
