So what about those that can't afford to rent privately? Should they just live on the streets?

    Housing benefit.

    Alright them smart @r$e.

What about those that work and barely earn enough to live? Those that aren't entitled to HB yet still have to find £500 a month for rent.

You're talking balls mate and you know you are.
This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down

So on one hand you're saying Local government shouldn't provide housing except on a short term emergency basis but then it's OK for people to use the RTB scheme to buy these 'emergency' homes?????

The end result being the Local government ends up with no 'emergency' homes???

You misunderstand me. The mass of Local Government owned housing stock should be sold off. Government has no more business building and owning houses than it does building cars or running telecoms companies.

I believe that they should pay a retainer to a small number of private LLs to hold their houses empty so they can be used to temporarily house people in an emergency (e.g. house burned down).
    What a load of sh!te.

    Witty and insightful.

They should live somewhere cheaper. I did when I was young and broke.

If you're on a low income you can claim housing benefit. Do your research.

Please leave the abuse out of it. You're lowering the tone. My 'mates' don't talk to me like that.

Lived in my council home for 17 years so I think I deserve a discount. There are lots of people who envy when others get the right to buy. Only cos they may not have the same opportuntity. I work full time but cannot afford to buy a house on the open market. Hence why I went for the right to buy. The way thing are going with interest rates increasing it has become very difficult for 1st time buyers to even get on the property ladder.

You do realise that there are thousands out there who are just what you say, and don't get a penny from the government. Not only do you get 16k for free out of our money to better yourself, but you want to claim a further £22,000 from us lot who don't even have that opportunity?!

    Get real.

Immigrants have no entitlements to 'your' houses unless they have been here and working for x amount of time.

They pay tax, but cannot use services they pay for. So don't think for one second they live rent free.

Hey guys, the rights or wrongs of the RTB should be debated down in the Arms. Someone just ASKS a question, and you lot spout off like there's no tomorrow. All of you can it, both pro and anti. You've just hijacked this thread and should be ashamed of yourselves!
