Windows 8 makes your machine faster, but it's OS makes greater graphical demands on your system leading to overload.
Not sure what you mean there?

The Windows 7 "Aero" interface has gone in Windows 8 where the desktop is rather simpler, and in that sense, it means Windows 8 has less work to do graphically than Windows 7. Some people miss the Aero interface, although I prefer the Windows 8 Desktop.

To answer the OP, keep what you`ve got and don`t waste any money upgrading.
When you replace your current PC with a new one, it`ll have the latest version on it.
    Probably Windows 12.

I wonder how many times this reply box will allow me to copy paste Say No To Windows 8 Say No To Windows 8 Say No To Windows 8???

Windows 8 makes your machine faster, but it's OS makes greater graphical demands on your system leading to overload.

Windows 7 is like traditional windows - you know how to get to things.

In windows 8 there is specific paths you have to take to reach your goal. If you get in the backend regularly (I believe) it is a hassle and a half.

So I think that, hey, if you're willing to learn all about Windows 8, then do yourself some justice and move over to Linux. Both willl have a learning curve and linux is way cooler (But... if you have a laptop then be wary of linux. It's not always a match made in heaven)

Meanwhile, back in a windows 8 user's life, they're tricking themselves into thinking that "if its new, it must be better".... Windows Vista anyone?

    well

some people likes Vista and some did not
some like Win 8 some dont
some likes Win ME over Win 98 even though ME was only 98 SE

    this is life

In my 20+ years working with computers i have seen some rubbish OS (vista being 1 of them). I find Win 8 is better than Win 7, but again others will disagree.

You also need to consider whether Win 8 is compatible with some pre-existing software that you may use.
...and by compatible that also means it may work at the moment but a future MS update/patch whatever may make it suddenly not work.

I suppose this is not an issue for those who merely browse the web etc but for those who use specialist non mainstream programs now no longer maintained or upgraded such things are an important consideration.
  • I agree, save your money and stay away from 8 until 8.1 comes out of beta .

i use non mainstream programs with Win 8 without issue even MS Office 2007 works fine
  • I was on XP and took up the £25 upgrade offer to Win8, I am glad I did it. If I had Win7 already I wouldnt make the switch, particularly now the £25 offer is over.
I like Win8 but doubt it offers much over Win7, it does offer lots over XP though.

    ...sigh
Office 2007, 2010 2013 are supported on Win 8 so its not suprising that it works and will continue to be so.

Office 2003 is not, so as I said it may well work at the moment but there is no guarantee that it will continue to do so and MS updates will not be designed to take account their effect on unsupported software such as Office 2003
