And yet, if he's like his Dad, will work full-time, undertake many, many hours of voluntary work and spend his life being criticised by people he'll never meet and still just get on with it. Despite their wealth, you don't see any member of the Royal family not working - and putting in many more hours than many others. Not a bad ethos.

oh please, choosing to fly a helicopter and come back to a 4 story 21 room mansion full of servants is hardly working.

Knowing your butler has run your bath and the bills are paid, takes a big weight off, not to mention he seems to get loads of time off and as for all of them working, don't make me laugh, his wife hasn't worked a day in her life and never will, turning up to a charity lunch now and again is hardly taxing.

I would look to changing jobs so that you're not working six days a week.

    Being unemployed is soul destroying.

I'm in the fortunate position where i don't have to work, but i was made redundant from a very enjoyable job a few months ago and have just been looking for work since - having nothing to do during the day is sooooo boring. It only takes an hour to clean up and then it's a case of twiddling thumbs.

It's horrible HAVING to work, but it's equally as horrible not being able to.

And even though i don't claim it, Jobseekers is a pittance to live on. You'll never do a decent food shop again if you're on benefits. Count yourself lucky.

Well it's a fact, scientifically proven.

Of course work can bring on stress too, and lead to anxiety/stress in some cases, of course it can, but it's a proven fact that sitting at home all day, not working, with no goals has a much higher rate of leading to depression.

Scientifically proven by who? How is it a fact exactly?
  • Sometimes it's the job that you have that makes life miserable. Since most of us have to work, these are my suggestions after many, many years of trial and error, blood, sweat and many tears:

    1. Find a job closer to home so travel time is kept to a minimum and your day is shorter. Your money will also go further.

    2. Work for a small company - you'll be more likely to be treated like a human being and surprise, surprise be much better paid (the bigger the company /faceless corporate you work for - the lower the salary).

Much easier said than done and I am sure many people will have other tips to offer. The biggest mistake I ever made was believing only big companies pay well - they don't. You're just a battery hen in a large profit making factory and they don't care about you (any "care" comes from being frightened of transgressing employment law).

Off to my job shortly which, finally, I can honestly say I do enjoy.

I'm only contracted 30hrs per week, yet I always end up working 6 days. Don't get me wrong, the overtime does help but its hard to enjoy it when on the day you do get off, you get constant phone calls from work asking if you can do an extra day the next week. Can you not just let me have one day without having to think about working? So, I know how you feel, kind of.

This sums it up very well. It might seem like all that free time is a good thing, but it soon gets boring!

Everybody is sick of working from time to time.

Maybe the OP needs to re-evaluate, and consider whether their job is right for them, do some classes to get new skills so it'll be easier to find something they enjoy etc.

Also it's important to think WHY you are working, so maybe set some goals to save for, both short and long term, so when you achieve your goals, and enjoy the outcome, you can appreciate what you have worked for.

It's what I do when I have a day out, or a holiday, or when I take early retirement (if all goes to plan ) in a couple of years. I've worked for these things, even if I didn't feel like it, I've just got my head down and got on with it, and have reaped the reward of enjoyable times at the end of it
