What is the information you're not telling us?

Did they discover an undisclosed claim or conviction and request more money?

    More info is needed.

Is this at the end of a year with this insurer, or are you seeking to cancel a policy mid-term - say part way through year 2 or 3?

    Were you offered a renewal?

By withhold do you mean they are not prepared to issue a letter or certificate of entitlement showing how many years you have been claim-free?

    Have they given any reason?

They can certainly withold the additional NCD for the part-year that you've had the policy. As to any previously earned NCD, that depends on all of the other details that you aren't telling us...

Why are you trying (or being forced) to change to a different insurer?
  • no the policy has run it's 12 months & they sent me a renewal notice but it did not have the NCB on it...

Have you asked for proof of no claims?

So they have not withheld it.

You have not asked for it.

They wont send it with your renewal, as they don't want to make it to easy for you to go elsewhere.

If you go elsewhere they will give you a couple of weeks to send your NCD to them.

So ask your insurance company for it.

Every company I have ever had insurance with has stated the number of years no claims on the renewel letter. Some may not do this, but a blanket 'they won't send it with your renewal' isn't really true.

I would get quotes for insurance via comaprison sites, confirm the best ones directly via the insurers websites, and then phone your current insurer. If they can beat the best alternative then stay put. If not, then ask then to send you proof of the NCD.

Actually, does the renewel state the number of years no claims on it? It's a while since I've been asked for proof, but that's all I've ever needed in the past.

Its not been on any of mine.

Would the next insurance company accept a renewal letter as proof of NCD?

Yes, if it has the number of years on it.

All of mine in the past have shown this.
