Stuck electricity meter

I have a dilemma, I had an electricity bill in may for £30 which I guessed was wrong so I checked my meter. The meter was stuck and not moving so I informed my supplier, they said someone would come out in a month, this was June, the guy didn't turn up even though the supplier said he definitely would on the day. I have not told them since and the meter is still not moving. Should I tell them?

Yes.
Write to your supplier, point out that you advised the problem on (date) but that the promised engineer's visit has not been made.
Keep a copy of your letter and send recorded delivery.0 -
You want the problem fixed as soon as possible, ring them up again and then complain in writing.
If you don't ring them they have a right to guess your electricity usage based on historic data when they do remember to fix it. Your not going to get it for free!
Your bill of £30 may well be retracted also, if you have used significantly more previously.0 -

Nope, they can't as the house has been unoccupied for the last six months as you have been working abroad.0 -

is it? where's the proof?
In any case, get it sorted and accept no payment plan w/o free interest, and small compensation for your time and effort in trying to pay the correct amt.0 -
To be honest, messing aside, it is not for the customer to prove they did not use the electricity, it is up to the network to prove you did, and without a meter reading they can't. Don't be billed for any usage, or get talked into it.0

If you go with that attitude, you'll be be landed in court.
They'll give there arguments for what they think you should pay. They'll give historic information to back up the arguments.
Unless you can prove that you did not use the electric, a figure will be arrived at that you will need to pay.
Far easier to agree a figure before it gets to court as it'll be cheaper.
Same goes for the gas bill if that meter stops working.0 -
Make sure to use as much electricity as possible, get everything charged up to max!Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

Court :rotfl: ........... OP has informed the utility supplier and they said they would send an engineer. It is unreasonable to expect him to do more. The Utility Company may estimate his usage and OP may disagree, be very interesting to see what the outcome will be "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
