New Washing Machine frustration

  • We have a 7kg Beko 71642w washing machine. It's fab, and we only ever use the daily quick setting, which can be anywhere from
39 min up to about 1hr 30 (depending on how hot you have the wash) we also have a Beko tumble drier. I love them both, they are fab!

Two features I always insist on in a machine, being able to select temperature and spin speed independently of the pre-set programmes. I would never get a machine where I couldn't change these 2 functions to suit.

My machine is a Bosch (bought on sale) and has a quick wash button, it's the only one I use and does a wash in 45mins.
Everything comes out clean and well spun!

We have a Bosch too and you can change the spin speed on the shorter 'easy-care' programmes, you can make it slower or faster depending on what you're washing. It's really handy.

    ^^This.^^

Being able to over-ride the washing temp is the one thing that will cut down on the length of the programme. Even though I do this quite often I wouldn't be bothering with those "economy" settings as I don't think there is actually any actual washing going on. The clothes just seem to get a bit of dampening and the rest of the programme is the rinses.

Although I am next-door to a pauper I would never buy a Beko and Curry's would have to pay me to take their rubbish away.

I have a Samsung (bought from Argos on sale - about 7 -8 years ago) simply because it had a quick wash option and the least amount of 'options'. it does a 'boil' wash, Which I occasionally use for white cottons - a 'synthetics' was of 55 mins which I have used a few times for really soiled items and my go to wash of 35 mins including spin!
its a really good machine. (cross fingers here - the last time I praised my machine it conked out the next day).

I like the fact that I could different washing temps (limited) on the programmes - so if I wanted to choose the quick wash I could increase the temp from 40 to 60 but it increased the time to 50 mins. yet that was still shorter than the synthetics program at 60. so I sometimes used that.
its a 'versatile' machine and I am not tied to one program. I like that!

Thanks for the responses all. Umm, well it seems like many people doing 'workarounds' to get the type of wash they want.

I'm afraid I wouldn't buy a Beko as they have a very poor safety record and a series of serious recalls.

I'd be interested to know what model the Bosch is that is mentioned (Hobsons Choice) that does a good hot everyday wash in 45 mins.

As some have mentioned, controlling cycle time + water temp + spin speed individually is the ideal - why do manufacturers not make this as standard? What I want is a proper hot wash with decent spin speed in 45 minutes - is that impossible?

The quest continues ... (wonder if any manufacturers are taking note ????) LOL

    Thanks

My mother has a Zanussi (which are REALLY good machines.. I had several on recommendation from an engineer until I got my Samsungs) That has a 25 minute, 1600 rpm spin 40'C wash with variable temp. She has had it a while though.

If you go on some sites.. appliances direct or appliances online you can search by these criteria.. then compare the prices to Boots (via quidco) which I found to be a LOT!! Cheaper than most other places.. One of my WM's was £300 cheaper than they were at Curry's!

I have just last week replaced my Indesit washing machine (bearings gone :() with the upgraded model of supposedly the same machine. The shortest wash I have managed so far is just over an hour at 30 degrees. My old machine did the same wash in 25 - 30 minutes!
Don't even start me on the ECO programmes. How can using less water, detergent, and lower water temperature be more economical when the shortest programme takes at least 2 hours or even 3 hours to complete?

Same with my 'new' dishwasher (about 3 years old) - that takes much longer than my old one did even on the non ECO programme. :(:(

    This is progress?

I have the most basic model from argos, I collected it in my car too. I think I paid £149. It has a quick wash function too. Only a 5kg wash load but as my family is getting smaller its ok for us.

It will still only last as long as the others have so far.... indesit, hotpoint and beko are all made in the same factory.

    Normal people worry me.
