New Washing Machine frustration

My current washing machine (ancient) is giving signs of the end of life so I'm looking for a replacement. Narrowed it down to a few trusted brands and I have sussed my other basic requirements, but it seems so difficult to find what I want - despite the dizzying and confusingly vast numbers of very similar machines on offer. :(

What I find most frustrating is that it is difficult to find machines that offer a set of short programmes of 30-45 minutes (which is what I regularly use except for odd very soiled wash) with a very good rinse and spin. Many short washes either have a delicates spin/rinse only it seems. Or machines don't have a shortish wash.

In this day and age of little worn clothing going into the wash in most households are so many of the 'normal' washes 2+ hours long ???? This is the most common complaint from the feedbacks/reviews I've been checking out on various sites. Why are most manufacturers concentrating on these (to me) over-long washes?

Unnecessaryily long washes is a waste of money, and money I don't want to have going literally down the drain every day of the week. Is it just me?

Bit of a rant sorry.
Thanks

Couldn't agree more! I also want to see how much water the washes use, so I can reduce the water bill as much as possible.

Mine does quick washes in less than an hour depending on what temp you select. A 7kg wash at 30c takes about 45 mins. It's a Beko, not expensive, has max spin at 1600 rpm. I'm very happy with it. Bought it from Appliances Online who offer a great service.

I do agree, seems we were better off with the old twin tubs!!

I have a John Lewis own brand machine (about 5 years old). It has a facility to change most of the cycles into a 'quick' version. So a 2 hour 60 degree wash becomes 1 hour for example. It's also got a 30 minute quick wash but with a low spin. There is a 12 minute fast spin programme too.

Not perfect, but better than many.

We too are looking for a new machine. At the moment top of our llist is the currys logic at £169. Reasonably good reviews apart from maybe programmes are a little long but it will only be used once a week so not too much of an issue.

    Hello,

The washing machine in the house we are currently renting is also a Beko, model WMB 61431B. The maximum load is 6kg and the maximum spin is 1400 rpm. I have to say that this machine is perfect for a couple and has been working perfectly so far.
It has a time saver program, for example:
    - cold: duration 26 min
    - 30c: duration 28 min
    - 40c: duration 50 min

From comparison websites, the price is around £240.

    Regards,
    Pol

  • My Indesit does a 15 min wash but low spin speed so needs a seperate spin afterwards.

I've been through various makes - LG, Hotpoint, Siemens (lasted longest - 7 years), Beko, Haier (absolute rubbish) and am on my second Indesit. Would love one that takes about 10kg though - I do so much washing a week :(

I owned a twin tub when I first got married over 30 years ago. Nothing comes close but I do own a hotpoint that does a fair job. It gives the option of a quick wash and I often use this. Pretty sure it uses too much water though. Wouldn't touch a Beko with a barge pole. Too many safety issues as well as being cr*p quality.

My machine is a Bosch (bought on sale) and has a quick wash button, it's the only one I use and does a wash in 45mins.
Everything comes out clean and well spun!
    Normal people worry me.

My Samsung 12Kg does a 15 minute wash but requires a further 13 minute spin cycle otherwise stuff is sopping.

The standard quick 30'C wash is 52 minutes.. the 60'C cotton wash is 2 1/4 hours!! and I have never used it!
