Disappointed with the Elsanta strawberries I've grown this year. They were misshapen and are not very sweet - I bought them as plants and am wondering whether they were mislabelled as they were recommended as one of the best varieties for home growing. Certainly won't bother next year.

The local squirrel population have developed a taste for them. I have them in planters hanging on the patio railing. They sit hidden under the leaves and tuck in. Every few minutes a little head pops up, checks all is clear and returns to their munching! As I've found them inedible, the squirrels are welcome to them.

The first lot of Wholegood organic strawberries I had from Ocado were fantastic, but the second were dire - different varieties tho.

Not an Elsanta fan here and they don't tend to be grown much organically. I find Elsanta quite hard.

A lot of people don't realise that you need to eat strawberries that have been out of the fridge for at least a couple of hours as the flavour comes alive outside the fridge. Applies to other food like cheese.

    Hello,

Just thought I'd chip in. I've not chosen Elsanta strawberries for years now, after someone pointed out to me how much better Sonata are.

However, my housemate and I also find Capri pretty disappointing after a few punnets so that's another one to avoid from now on.

My favourites are Sonata and there is also another one, with a longish name that begins with a C but I can't remember what it is exactly (not Cambridge). Available towards the end of summer, i.e. now.

I never put strawberries in the fridge and I usually go through 3-4 punnets a week just by myself when they're in season. Yummy replacement for a proper cooked dinner! :D

I must say after saying how good Capri were early on in the season, the last few punnet's I have had were disappointing.
