What type of a brand is Duffs for a boy?

I wonder if you can help.
I have seen a lot of Duffs clothes on a cut price website going for a reasonable price.
My question is I have only just noticed this brand and I have no idea if it is an in brand.
I remember as a child really wanting a pair of Nike trainers and my mum bought me Nicks trainers and I was devastated I really wanted a cool brand to wear amongst my friends, I always remember the kids around me noticing and feeling very self conscious.
My DS aged 9 has just seemed to enter in to what is seen as cool and not. The thing is, having entered this world, he too doesn't have a clue. He wants to fit in, he has already stopped wearing all the lovely polo t-shirts in favour of crew neck, and I have noticed that is what all his friends wear. He tried on a nice pair of green skinny jeans but they felt really tight on, I have always had him in chinos and cords so for him they feel very strange, so he was sad to reject them.
So my question is, is Duffs up there will the Billabong, Hollister, Ralph Lauren, or Bench, Fat Face, Crew, French Connection, or at a level of M&S and BHS where clothing might be doomed to a becoming aware boy?
It sounds really shallow just asking this, but my son is really shy and is doing all he can to try to keep up with the growing trends, so will be likely to be sad about wearing something that is not quite up there with the other boys clothes. Just like me with my Nicks trainers!
Thanks

Duffs are very good quality products, mainly do skate shoes. I prefer them over Vans, DC or other skate shoe brands.
Regarding popularity they definitely don't have the clout that some of the other brands do but in the right circles they are well known and respected for quality
Hope that helpsChallenge yourself with something you know you could never do, and what you’ll find is that you can overcome anything.0 -
I've never heard of them but I'm not a young boy so they could be cool
I wear Converse and notice now that almost every second person in the street I see has a pair of them on, and they are what I buy for my son. I'd imagine they're quite cool to youngstersThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
I can't say about the clothes but the trainers are up there with DC and maybe a little more expensive, £50 - 70ish? When my son grew out of them (feet grew sooooo fast between 11 and 14 yrs) I was able to sell them at about 1/2 price on the bay of E, started at 99p but had loads of bidders.0

Vans, Duffs and Etnies.......oh how I remember them all well! They are generally known as skater shoes, but worn for BMX and other stuff. The hours we spent waiting for a young DS to choose whilst out shopping. Son is now well grown up, but still wears them - they take a lot of hammering, but last. Still cool........0

I've never heard of Duffs either.
But my two older grandsons are 10 and nearly 14 and their mum makes sure they are very cool!
They wear stuff like Voi jeans, American Apparel, Fred Perry, Abercrombie & Fitch, Vans and I think Jack Jones?
It's hard to get it right though isn't it, when your kid's happiness seems to depend on it?
Hope your little lad is happy with whatever you decide on, OP0 -
Or get 'Super Dry' for the real chav lookOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0

Hi OP,
My son is 14 and apparently very fashionable (according to him) Maybe his taste is a little too old but I have never hear of Duffs either. After spending an insane amount of money on a shopping spree he came back with, Ralph Lauren Polos, Tommy Hilfiger t-shirts, Levi's jeans, Armany jeans, SuperDry Stuff, Voi Stuff, Hollister stuff, Nike air Jordans, Nike trainers, he wears Vans also, apparently Adidas and Duffer of St George are also cool brands, maybe the trainers are from Duffer of Sta George?. Aparently Bench is not cool, and neither are converse. I see a lot of his friends wearing the above brands so it looks like they are all cool brands. Hope that helps, it is really hard to understand as a parent what is cool and what isnt

I think what's 'in' can vary a lot depending on what sort of thing you're into and your group of friends. Duffs were quite trendy among the skater and pot smoking /fringe population of my school in the mid/late 90s, but the more mainstream popular kids wouldn't go near the stuff.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

I think maybe that should be Jack Wills.
My DGD1 has just left school and is about to start at 6th Form College. DD has just taken her out to buy the 'Jack Wills' uniform expected.;)
P.S. Never heard of Duffs either.
My advice would be to buy an absolute minimum of designer stuff for out of school wear as children keep growing. Ebay can be good too.0 -
Hi OP,
After spending an insane amount of money on a shopping spree he came back with, Ralph Lauren Polos, Tommy Hilfiger t-shirts, Levi's jeans, Armany jeans, SuperDry Stuff, Voi Stuff, Hollister stuff, Nike air Jordans, Nike trainers, (Either way, when I suggested she use her own money (that she'd got as a pressie from my parents) to buy it it wasn't as desirable anymore. :rotfl:
