Love it.

6.25pm on a Saturday and I have just booked myself an appointment for one of our doctors for Tuesday! And I got to choose the doctor I'll see (without having to choose a time first, then find out which GP it's with, like I do when I phone)!

While I was at it I re-ordered a prescription item so I will be able to pick that up when I go!

Apparently our doctor's surgery was one of the first in the UK to have a website.

There are loads of available appointments but I would assume, looking at the days and times they are not making all slots bookable online.

  • Think I will move to your area!!!! ;)
Our surgery is diabolical, you can never ever get an appointment when you need it. You have to ring at 8am on a morning & it's pot luck as to whether you get to see a locum doctor, let alone your own doc. It's always, "we're fully booked, please ring again at 8 in the morning". Circle springs to mind!

Then when you do finally get an appointment, there's hardly anyone in the waiting area, yet they say they are fully booked!

It would be nice to be able to book online though, I wonder if this will be implimented in other areas too before long. I do hope so, it would make life easier.

All NHS practices have emisaccess enabled, but you need to get access details from your surgery.

this is different to the doctors own website as it links from their site.

Ours place very few appointments through this system, but handy for repeat prescriptions.

I think this goes for a lot of surgeries these days. Its like they are saying 'sorry no appointments, call again tomorrow, hope you die before we can give you an appointment'

I don't really like that you have to ask for access from the reception, seems like it's too much trouble considering for me a visit to the doctor is only occasional.

you have to ask as they need to print out a sheet for you with user ID etc. on

If you dont use doctors that much and dont have repeat prescriptions then yes it will not be much use to you.

Just to add I am normally a 'low' user. But twice now we have had 'crises' DD wahen she was little and me at Easter.

Both times they have been fantastic; DD was admitted to hospital from the surgery when she was 23 months; when the doc phoned for the ambulance he said it wasn't urgent but we stayed there, using the nebuliser, until they came. Ironically my crisis was similar; I was seen on three consecutive surgery days to monitor., Prior to crisis we were not diagnosed with asthma.

When I had DS (emergency c section) my GP popped by to see me as he was in the hospital viositing a GP delivery patient!

Apparently they ARE taking new patients! 5 GPs. 3 male, 2 female!

Are you my neighbour?!?! We have the same problem, you have to call at 8.15am, spend half an hour listening to a "busy" tone, then have to pray you don't get the most useless doctor on the planet(tm).

Ours have the emis system set up by a good forward thinking practice manager when it was first available I was one of the first users as he was (is) a friend and he trialled the system with people he knew would be able to use it before launching it to everyone. Sadly since he left you rarely see any appointments available but it is still possible to get repeat prescriptions on it.

Wish my surgery had the same. Prescription requests go through a non-secure server, news was last updated in 2011 (actually they don't have a news section just an old "click here" announcement) and as for booking appointments online... ha ha ha!
