    Why?

I don't know. She also has a credit card on my mum's account and they pay for incidental expenditure like the dentist.

My parents paid us both an allowance whilst we were at uni. She never got a proper job after leaving so it seems they didn't stop paying the allowance or take the credit card away.

The whole thing has backfired horribly if you ask me. She has never had to support herself so she hasn't bothered to. She is also very immature and throws tantrums all the time which I expect is related. My parents treat my OH like a child (not in a really rude way but they seem to think she is incapable of doing anything for herself) and I think it's because they expect her to act like my sister as she is the only other girl the same age that they spend time with.

My parents got me a credit card on my mother's account when I was 18, but I was only expected to use it for approved expenditure - when i was sent to the supermarket, or shops, or to fill my mother's car up with petrol.

My siblings all had the same. Some of my friends' parents were amazed, but none of us ever abused it.

Don't suppose your parents would like to adopt me?

My mum's intention was to give me a credit card as well but the bank refused to issue one. A wise decision given how profligate I was when I was 18.

People can be funny about daughters. Fir's dad has been the same with his daughter.

is it bad that I feel sorry for the villagers in Balcombe? Not anything about fracking but the fact is they have been descended on by thousands of campaigners and they've been squatting in fields and blocking roads, causing lots of disruption.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. :)

I always have several. I'm celebrating with my kids today, going out to the pub with my work friends on Thursday (combining my birthday with celebrating or drowning sorrows according to our GCSE results) and will have some kind of meal with my church friends in September when everyone's back off holiday. :D

So far today I have had a lie-in, followed by breakfast brought to me in bed, followed by opening stuff downstairs - DD has decorated the living room with paper chains and Christmas tree lights - "stuff" being a few cards in the post, some text messages, and several presents (mostly biscuits) from DD. DS has ordered me something from Amazon that hasn't arrived yet, and my dad gave me some edible presents in advance last time we saw him and is transferring some money to my bank account today. I am now going to have a (hopefully uninterrupted) bath with lots of bubbles, and DS and DD are making a huge effort to go a whole day without squabbling, so far with only brief lapses. :)

Later, DD is going to make a cake and then a friend is coming for tea, and I'll take DS and DD out for Chinese.

That sounds like a really nice B'day day....
Bet your DH was charmed and seduced by the fact that a crucial part of his body had you howling with laughter instead of awed, impressed and compliant (-:
:rotfl::rotfl: Maybe I should fake 'impressed-ness' every so often....just to make him smile.

.............it's clippered so more short and sparse rather than 'waxed to death' bald but I didn't notice for a while. I think he started about 4 years back as son clippers too....and he felt he should be more modern about body hair issues. Certainly no pressure from me :) I don't really care....but I don't like itchy chin at all ...from 2 days growth (:o)

...but he's so hairy everywhere else except his calves...he has really bald calves....and inner thighs.

He def does something to his eyebrows as well......I think he runs the clippers on no 3 across them.

ah... and I remember now...I did critique his underarm hair a couple of years back as it seems to grow straight and was then sticking out under his armpit and hanging droopily over his vest. I think I tweeked it an laughed...and I don't think he has it so long anymore.....he must trim it now and again.:)

I epilate legs and underarms but suffer the indignity of extreme waxing elsewhere when I can be bothered to go. Really it should be a 2-3 weeks thing but it's so undignified and painful I put it of and off .....so it's back to square 1 each visit.

Sorry to hear about the bad day LIR.

Son went to uni and we thought everything was provided.
He went with his clothes and personal stuff but then called us to say he had no bedding.

I did an online shop and Tesco delivered him some the next day....but he could've gone to town himself the next day really......but I felt so bad I just did it. He slept under his coat + a towel on the 1st night in his room.

I think it's the other way round in my family.

My dad facilitated my brother's house purchase (making sure paperwork was done, chasing stuff up etc etc). Now my brother is abroad he pops down (over 100 miles away) to mow the lawn every month or so (the house is not unoccupied). My brother could afford to get someone in to mow the lawn if he so desired.

When I mentioned I'd had an offer accepted he asked me whether we'd exchanged contracts (no, not yet...). He came to see the house a week ago (after I asked if he'd like to come and see it), and I've not heard from him since. I guess that seeing as I'm the one who gets asked to read through documents/ set up ISAs etc. it has been figured that I'll get on with things and look after myself. Luckily I am (I think).

It's something I have never given any thought to but I am now wondering if we treat ours the same or differently.

There is a 7 year age gap and DD is soooo sensible whilst DS has always been more of a wild child.

Certainly OH is more protective over her eg; if she goes out and he always wakes up @ 3am or whenever as he doesn't sleep properly unless she is in. But thinking back, he was the same when son used to go out.

Both ours have details of our debit cards at times but wouldn't use them unless it was an 'approved' emergency.

The trouble with the Village is it's a bit of an odd place without any 'soul' or shops for that matter, if I remember correctly? Yes I feel sorry for the Residents, but at least it's now put it's place on the map!
