We have a Joel. He spends a lot of time spelling his name to people. "No, not Noel. J-O-E-L." That sort of thing.

He's actually Simon Joel, which was a bit of a compromise, as I wanted Simon and DW wanted Joel. I called him Simon for his first 3 months, and DW called him Joel. Eventually, she wore me down.

The only one of our kids who is unhappy with his name is Asher, which is a name we both liked and is becoming more popular. He hates it. Calls himself Ash.

How many kids have you got, GDB?

DD has a name that comes in various forms, like Christina, for example (except not actually Christina). She spends a lot of time saying "No, not Christine, Christina." It was easier when she shortened it to Chris, but she's decided she doesn't like that any more.
Looks like floods weren't as bad as they could be for most.

    :)

Thinking of the ones who've got flood water in their homes. :(
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

LiR talking about naming the squeakers and dogs reminded me of another boys name I like.

Best wishes to SingleSue and her parents, I hope everyone is OK and CK finally got off the A27. Bugs trucking owes more overtime than usual, but they all came home safe and sound which is the important bit.

A friend named her baby Jonas recently - is the Jewish version of that a possible?

Hmm. I think I might over personalise the alphabet.

How do you feel about 'J's?;)
  • I'm off to Feltham - two cases, probably be a while.....

2 cases in Feltham on Monday, as well, and in court 4 days next week. No rest for the wicked.

Js are together, calm and somewhat conformist. J's wear small jewellery, not statement pieces, or none if the j is a male. NIce parents wouldn't be horrified by a J. I could never be a J. :o.

    Isn't it weird?

This is really clever. To choose a name that then gains in popularity, so he will forever sound younger than he is.

DS1's name didn't start to become popular until a few years after he was born. He had 6 Joshua's in his (jewish) nursery class, all whose Mum's thought they had been clever and unique.

I had a few kids in my class called Alan, a name that has died out.

When people would ask what my kids were called, I would generally use the shortened version and then sometimes people would have to ask whether I had girls or boys, something I never thought of at the time as I think of them as boys names predominantly.

A good name for a lift.

I wanted Hilton for a boy and Sabrina for a girl, OH ruled both out.
