Before I had kids I was never off sick and never off for odd days for any other reasons and always just 'put in the hours' late into the evening/early in the morning to get stuff done at work - and used to look askance at those who did not. I would also always have time for my friends if I thought they needed time or whatever.
With kids suddenly it has all changed, I watch the clock and leave as soon as possible, I have days off for sportsday, I take time at short notice if DW is unwell etc. My point being that suddenly the extra responsibility does change you, possibly not for the better but your whole focus shifts, it may not be for the best but it should not necessarily come as a surprise.I think....0 -
A couple of months ago we put in an offer on a 3 bed detached house in a nice street requiring a refurb and ripe for extension. It was on for 'Guide price 650k' we offered 630 in a best and final offers process, just seen online today it went for 742,950....
It's like a different world! As you know I have an office not far from you, but I literally could not afford to personally move down there, even though it is much bigger than the Northern office.
My house, standard three bed semi in a reasonable enough area is worth around 130k. And that's putting a new kitchen in!lemonjelly wrote: »

Jelly, much the same as you, I went through a stage where friends I had had for a while had settled down and had small fry and frankly didn't have time for me, which is fair enough and generally speaking women do seem to be more reluctant to head out on a girls night out. I still have them as friends and now that the children have grown up, I see them a bit more, I never lost touch completely. However, I did take it as a hint to make new friends. I think you will just have to say that for a few years, the most you will do is catch up for an occasional drink and in the meantime, widen your social circle.0 -

Starting to think yesterday was not a good jelly day. Other events happened which were not positive.

Honestly? I stick by what I said yesterday. I think bugslet has a good perspective too.
I wanted to rep one to her point earlier...mad dog woman,..but couldn't quite phrase it.

How could you tell?
Partly because you can see the eyes (no net meshes over them) and partly because their whole body language said "glare"....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Blimey missed the original post saying you had been burgled.....eeeeekkkkk!
It was a bit irritating. Especially as we were all in bed and asleep at the time. Not a nice feeling....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I meant to add - OH says it's put a serious dent in his desire to have a macho self-image, that he didn't tear the chap limb from limb or similar, to protect his cave and family.
OH woke up thinking there was someone knocking on our front door (which is downstairs) and got out of bed, and opened it - no-one was there. So he decided it must be a drunk neighbour coming home after a Friday night out on the town.
Going by the time the burglar made a phone call on my phone, it was almost certainly burglar who woke OH up, and he's furious he didn't go upstairs and find him there.
I'm glad, I think a laptop / phone / ipod / oyster card are a price well worth paying for OH not to get into a fight in the middle of the night!
Probably why not more stuff was nicked, as he left sharpish when Oh opened the door downstairs....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

A workmate got their laptop stolen and activated the camera and recoreded the thieves. Helped identify them and got the laptop back in the end. The thieves were plug ugly, if that's any comfort. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
My elderly cat had to go to the vet today for dental work. I get the effects of acute anxiety taking her, so my lovely husband took her in, and DD picked her up.
I think I have said before that 2 years ago when I was bringing her home after a check up the basket fell apart in the car park. She ran off, it is 5 miles from home, and it was almost 3 months and a reward before we got her back and I spent many nights up at 2 to 3 am calling for her in country lanes.
Since then I am terrified and she is fastened in to her basket with cable ties and I shake with fear.
She has had 5 teeth out including a canine is happily home with us and has eaten. When the pain relief wears off she will be ferocious. The antibugs are long acting so we do not have to pfaff around with tablets.
I am so fond of this little cat:o.0 -
Poor wee puss cat spirit. I hope she has nice food to gum on for the next few days.0
