F@&$ing ute. He just deliberately cut me up. I went straight over the drain. 1 burst tyre and missing my morning meeting. It was completely deliberate. I'm fine thankfully but what a [insert noun of choice].

On the Flanders and Swann theme, I used to like, but cannot remember anything of, Tom Lehrer.:(
Poisoning the Pigeons in the Park is a great one.
The MDF lullaby? The Vatican Rag? The Song for World War Three?
So long, Mom,
I'm off to drop the bomb,
So don't wait up for me.
But though I may roam,
I'll come back to my home,
Although it may be
A pile of debris.
Remember, Mommy,
I'm off to get a commie,
So send me a salami,
And try to smile somehow.
I'll look for you when the war is over,
An hour and a half from now!

Didn't Tom Lehrer say he gave up satire when Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Me (helping with RE homework): So, what's an example of something that could destroy somebody's health?
Him: The black death
Me: OK, if that's what you want to put. What could destroy your family?
Him: The black death
Me: OK. What would destroy your home?
Him: The fire of London.
Me: This is supposed to be about causes of happiness and loss of happiness, not history.
I don't get it - what's the right answer?0 -

We've told Isaac, now - his initial reaction was very, very negative. In fact, he suggested foster-care, for the baby, rather than for him. A couple of days later, and he's seemingly .

Yeah I'm fine. I'm now sitting on the bus in full Lycra and shoes with 'cleats' (metal things that you screw to your shoes that clip in to the pedal). Funnily enough I have the seat to myself!
Bloody angry though. It was completely deliberate. We have this stupid thing over here where a newspaper called the Telegraph, a populist, right wing tabloid, has decided to print an ongoing series of 'them and us' articles about cyclists and drivers. As a result there is a lot more aggressive driving towards cyclists by some other road users, mostly buses and utes.
The fires are still pretty bad. No impact on us so far beyond poor air quality so far. I have double checked my insurance though. The most amazing thing is that the fires are being fought by about 3-4,000 people at any given time almost all of whom are volunteers that don't even get expenses.
There's a photo doing the rounds of a couple of the RFS (Rural
Fire Service) guys having a snooze on the road while they wait for the fire to arrive. They'd been working something like 36 hours straight.
There was a very touching interview with one volunteer who had just finished saving his own home. The crews had been told they couldn't fight the fire in his area as they had to concentrate elsewhere then the wind changed direction and the strategy changed. His house was saved and he was a very emotional man.
It is fantastic what those RFS people do. Our current Prime Minister is a member and has been for years. He's spent the past few days out in the Blue Mountains doing back burning to try to stop 2 big fires joining up.0 -
Ask michaels to pm you a link to his childhood home.
No POSH ALERT could ever outdo this.

No wonder I'm poor ... I've been knocking his advances back for months!
Didn't you notice I cried off the get together with some lame excuse about BTLs when I found out you weren't going (despite all my efforts to secure a free dinner)....I think....0 -

General, rather than specific, I imagine - not a specific historical fire, but cancer / fire / earthquake / other cheerful stuff in general....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
