We sometimes do that in our questions because we are reliant on team work to get things done. If a team is tight knit because they have similar outlook, interest and drive to get the job done then they will work efficiently rather than the person who could get the job done.

Good thing that's not required in my job - I'm rubbish at teamwork. If something needs doing, better to do it yourself (-:

A perfect choice for the Kosher couple!

Have you decided on OH's birthday present?

I know, not my choice. Looks like laser eye surgery for the present, which is a bit odd but the only thing that he really wants!

It's a bit weird the hiring process. I'm going through the blender at the moment with it and I can read pretty much when it's going well and when it's not. And sometimes, it's just as much about how you fit into the general working environment compared to the other candidate.

Lots of what DH does requires team work. Sometimes the teams work well because they have different outlooks and see different 'holes' and flaws or ways to resolve. Quite often its the 'mono vision' teams that think that they have done really well and then get rattly because they don't play well with others who are good at playing with people who are different. IMO good team work is working as a team in a collegiate and productive manner drawing on each others strengths and weaknesses and differences in outlook etc as a bonus. Having a shared sense of achievement and 'in it together' sure, but..not sure being too similar is necessarily always a bonus. Someone who looks at the issue another way up to you sees the holes. For example, when reading about sue's upcoming weekend, it was Lydia's post after mine that made me think, yep, I definitely see that now, And 'hmm, now phrased that way I wonder if.....and then thought of some solutions I might use were I in sue's situation...which I'm not going into because she hasn't asked again and its none of our business, the point is, I read, didn't wholly agree or see the whole issue, then read another opinion, that saw two sides of the problem from a different vantage and this was a benefit to me because of the difference in approach.

Drive to get stuff done helps in any job....team work perhaps might help those with less, because they get some momentum from the group if there are a couple of drivers, but a bad 'dragged' or a few of them pull a team back. But they'd slow done someone in any work situation, working alone too.

    All of the above.

As money is unlimited, I'll clone myself in advance and have 4 times the fun. :)

A team of Hamishes, all in Tartan rally suits, romping across the desert and playing Rod Stewart songs at full blast through large loudspeakers in the Bivouac areas, just to ensure our competitors get no sleep.

    Ahhhhh..... Heaven. :rotfl:

Edit: Actually, as money (and therefore my ability to wage psychological warfare on competitors) is unlimited, we'd have Rod Stewart play live every night in the Bivouac, and hire the Proclaimers to wander round, minstrel style, singing "Well you will walk 500 hundred miles, and you will walk 500 more...."

Today's amazing fact. I'm Gonna Be (500 miles) is 3 1/2 minutes or 210 seconds long. The International Space Station travels at about 7.7km/s (it slows down as it drags through the upper atmosphere and then gets a little boost AIUI).

Therefore if you play I'm Gonna Be (500 miles) on the ISS you will travel 7.7*210 = 1617km =1000miles (well a tiny bit over but pretty bloody close!).

    Altogether noo:

"I would walk five hundrred miles
and-a I would walk five hundrred morrre"

Edit....I suppose difference appeals to me because its what I'm used to. But then, you look ultimately at the person who is undoubtedly a pretty perfect partner for me, he is from a different as possible area in the rough same socio economic background, a different racial profile, a different religious background, a different political bent, (at least historically and in upbringing) etc.

We might not be a 'close knit' over a short span in a hung number of issues but I think conversely its that which makes our relationship more cohesive.....for us.

It would be difficult to work, for example, in banking with an anarchist, in an abortion clinic with a rabid prolifer or whatever.

Oh and while we're on the subject of cool space stuff (or at least I am):

Amazing. 90 seconds of awesome. Watch it without reading the blurb first if you can.
  • In relation to the amazing-ness of space, has anyone read any books by Carl Sagan? He communicates the sense of "wow" better than anyone else I've read.

    Awwww. You are sooo kind.

Maybe it's because DD has been pulling out some of my grey hairs???
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

Makes a change from bringing them into existence?
