I have to admit I'm not particularly a lover of 'escargots'.
Mind you, where I grew up their marine counterparts were part of everyone's diet.
Whelks _pale_ - like chewing a ball of rubber bands :rotfl:

    Hahaha

    Snap!

Yep, exactly what used to happen to her. We really felt for her & tried for ages to find a front-opening model which took over a year to do. Mind you, not seeing the comic side was made harder by her name "Mrs ....". :D
I'd better delete the name before I go to bed. So, please don't quote it.

And to think her son ended up playing centre forward for England....
    I think....

Ouch pn, do you have a banana?

I'm starting to be able to tolerate some peppery and spicey foods in my mouth since the pills last summer, not huge amounts, but its amazing to be adding pepper to my food. Pepper is amazing! How have I lived a year or so without pepper?

DH reckons this probably means the pills are no longer so effective and they'll be upping them next time. .....

    :rotfl: He's so tall.:rotfl:
If height runs in families I'd definitely be interested to know the height of her milkman :D

It's only possible if there's room though. Room depends on size and layout and entrances/doorways. I've not 1" of spare wallspace here as there's no separate kitchen. I've just measured it - it's quite large .... it's (four feet, six inches) 4'6" x 9' (although the last 3' of that 9' is enclosed on 3 sides by a wall and contains the kitchen sink and boiler. If this place were mine ... and it wouldn't be .... I could make plans to make adjustments to suit my wants - but when you're renting, and not intending to stay or unsure if you will be you don't want to be taking time/money to fiddle with what you've got.

I wouldn't do anything (apart from maybe By a step or a chair I could use in another room but was good for standing on) in a rented place. Nada.

I cannot remember the dimensions of the kitchens I had exactly. I could work it out in units if I wanted I guess, they all had mainly standard width units in them.

I'm thinking more about a long term kitchen for you. No point having a kitchen you own out of reach to you.:)

I'll end up with the kitchen the house has got .... won't have money/skills for adjustments. I'll go down the market and get a cheap plastic stool to stand on.

In my own house, too, it's possible to have things being a bit odd/all over the place as there are no inspections to tidy up for :)

I painted the kitchen units we inherited here. It required no skill and looked LOADS better. Worth considering if it comes to it. :)

Pain wasn't that bad; it was a fleeting "shouldn't have done that". It passed after 2-3 minutes.

    I lived :)

Trouble at the moment is food overload ... I've got to use up: 6 slices of bread, 2 chillies, 3 large/beef tomatoes, 3 potatoes, 4 eggs and 6 small onions. Then there's half a tin of beef chilli soup and half a tin of pineapple.

I can think of loads of things to make - but the bottom line is that it's realistically 3 days' food volume-wise....

Oh and 1/7th of a pint of milk....

I've just had a small naan topped with a few bits/pieces and that's the main meal of the day. My appetite's quite tiny at the moment. I've been losing a lot of weight. In fact, if the weightloss continues I might start to think I've got some undiagnosed terminal thing going on!

AFAIK stomachs stretch or shrink depending on whatever happens to be the normal amount eaten. If you've eaten little for a while then your stomach may have just become used to that amount. If you're going to increase intake do it gradually. A blow-out would probably make you feel grim.
What temperature is your place? The weather is turning colder. You may find that the one benefit of a cold place is that food will last a bit longer. Just like certain things will last for several days in a larder if it's cold enough they may do it in your place.

At least the frilly one was in a Victorian house. The Victorians were into lots of frills and clutter and curtains draped everywhere, weren't they? Although my impression is that they went in for darker colours.

Oh, and on the subject of bathroom carpets, I'll reiterate my oft-repeated opinion that the best flooring for bathrooms is cork, with an appropriate sealant. Warm to touch, relaxing warm colour, soft feel, wipe-clean, what more's to wish for?

I imagine dark velvet, dark red / green wallpapers, and ornaments and fussy things everywhere for Victorians - not peach-coloured knickers made into curtains. I think you're right. And aspidistras.

Cork tiles are really nice, I agree.

I know we don't all have the same taste in decor...but anyone for this? I'm particularly speechless about the bathroom....

Apologies to lir, I am guessing you may want to start over with your home decoration now that you have this inspiration.

Looks like a cross between a curry house and a brothel, to me. So I reckon LIR's plans are safe.............

Those curtains with loops always look like giant knickers to me

There is something deeply satisfying about loopy knicker curtains. At someone else's windows. I suppose its cos they were fashionable when I was little.
