Humph.
You might have a point, sadly.
I've only spent a short time in Greece - a fortnight's family sailing holiday in Paxos, a small island near corfu, twice, and 10 days in Athens for a debating competition. So I've never actually paid out my own money to go there!
The sailing in Paxos was fantastic - I was 15, and my siblings were 13, 9 and 8 the first time we went, and we returned the following year. We were staying in a house on land, and during 10 of the days, we had a choice of sailing various small boats (lasers, laser 2s, toppers, wayfarers, a catamaran or two) or windsurfing, one day we went n a yacht to the nearby island of Anti-Paxos, and the other two we walked all over the island so my Dad could see every old Church in the place.PasturesNew wrote: »And, for me - when I had a job - it was the reminder that now was that loooong stretch until Xms for the next days off, with only dwindling light and warmth to come
My Mama usually says about Christmas / New Year time, "lighter ever day now until summer!"
My not-so-darling Dad likes to email or phone us all in late June, saying, "darker every day until Christmas".........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

What a good idea!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Will email.....but I have never taken a cup of tea in the Pump Room, might be just the company to change that with? I have had a glass of horrid tasting spa water there.....:D0 -

Jelly is also good. All that kind of protein stuff that's way on the throat and yet not too hard to digest .
You are such a food husband.. (Food should have read good, but,apt so can stay!). Some prepped fruit might be nice to pick at, and lots of nice drinks.
Also, although they are really for geriatrics you can get sort of tonics full of iron and stuff for recovery and these are quite a boost in return to health (though might just be the idea of taking a 'tonic')
It's pretty plain really: chicken stock with veggies, noodles and a little oomph. The oomph is the bit she likes.
Strawberries are just coming in to season here so are v cheap: $1 per half pound and v good so she had Eton Mess for pudding. I bought the pavlova cases.
Me and the kids just had the same pudding after home made beef pie. Yum!!!0 -

Perfect then.
I feel quite good this morning, sorted out some business calls, got that GP visit out of the way.....even thinking quite clearly.0 -

I've always been a fan of the crisp/dry meringue that I used to get at school dinners. After leaving school meringes tended to be on shop-bought Lemon Meringue Pie, which has a soft topping (not the same) .... only other time I've had a meringue (3-4x) has been at work when somebody's brought in a box of mixed cakes from a bakery for their birthday and there's usually one (if you're quick enough) that's two meringues with cream in the middle.
Never had Eton Mess.... certainly not going to go to all that effort just for me as I'd have to eat it all.0 -

Seriously? You could bash together a mess really cheaply from discounted broken shop bought (dry) meringue and some strawbs and a little tub of cream.
Or one of those meringues with cream in in and a few strawberries if pushed.
Meringues are already better than cupcakes, aren't they?. A nice chewy nut meringue for example.....

Pavlova (aka Australia's favourite fruit) is just really the local version of meringue.
Eton mess is meringue mixed with cream and chopped strawberries. It's a great simple, cheap pudding as it tastes good and is reasonably healthy for the kids/Missus as it has fruit, protein and dairy.
I don't understand why you'd be suspicious of it as I'd think it would be right up your street.0 -

Copper barn doors? Too ott even for me? Road side? Would silver be less brash? Against my sort of teal paint?0
