It needs to here. I vpcannotvthink for the pressure in my head.
Plus builder needs to see where guttering is failing and roof is leaking.
Fencers hit a pipe that's not any of our pipe plans this morning. Shrug. We're hoping its an old land drain and the hodge repair will work.0 -

That does rather sound as if you entertained several football teams.....Word endings - can one of the very erudite NP kindly explain why shrivel becomes shrivelled but rivet becomes riveted? (Two ls, but only one t.) English must be a nightmare to learn as a foreign language!
I don't know for sure, but I suspect the answer is along the lines, "it just does"So, l is doubled always. Other consonants are only doubled if the final syllable is stressed.
I might be able to remember that. Thanks very much.
I see Michaels found the right answer.
I suggest, though, that the rule should probably also say, "except when it doesn't"...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Agreed. Taller women are very useful, but they tend to prefer to stand next to men who are the same height or taller. Really, they ought to realise that their greatest utility is married to a short man.
I'm remind myself of that when I'm looking for my next husband - to consider at all times general utility.lostinrates wrote: »Wouldn't turn the heating on in summer anyway. Its in court process now. We've pretty much decided on its successor. I cannot believe we 're looking at more wood pellet things.. Its the money you see. I imagine NDG's parents, with her sister being there with horses and presumably some sort of business address anyway, are in a similar situation.
They might be - I'm probably being thick, but what similar situation?
I know they're installing a bio-furnace to fuel the Aga and heating and hot water, because the oil bills would make a grown man cry, even with my mother in charge of the thermostat....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Yes, yes. There are specific financial reasons why it might make sense if its also used as a business address.0 -

Why "well over 6 '"? What's wrong with 5 ft 11?
They were discussing a famous economist from New zealand on the radio recently . He was a really interesting bloke but he ended up in a prisoner of war camp where all the prisoners were on starvation rations.
He realised he'd survive the experience when he and some of the others noticed it was the tallest guys who were dying fastest and as they were the shortest they might still be roound when the war ended, (which turned out as they predicted).
Kind of a gruesome thought but also unusual to find an economist that predicted something right. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
A friend has found a perfectly nice second husband, nothing wrong with him except he is about 4' 10". She is only 5' 2" but most of us girls say "why?", "how could she?" etc Then we agree how shallow we are and how good she is to see past that. He also takes his shortness in his stride and happily makes jokes about it rather than it being a touchy subject. His kids from his first marriage are average heights, so there is no reason to think it would follow on genetically - though he has some short brothers.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. DH is a giant for his family. In a Mendelian way our children would likely have been taller still.
I dislike his family gatherings as I feel like a giant, where as at mine I feel normal. With my friends I feel normal to short.0 -
I've always found that the extra height and size of a tall man enables me to get what I want and where I need to be. As they're big, in a crowd I can just huddle behind them .... and they get noticed in bars etc so get served. It was just "useful" to have somebody around that could achieve things I struggle with
Oh - and they were hot too.0
