1 mum, 2 kids, where shall we go on holiday?

2 facts:
1) We're moving house in 10 days across the country.

2) I'm a teacher and I only get holidays when I am allowed them.

I thought I'd be okay not going on holiday as we're moving, but I feel as if this school holiday is being wasted - 2 weeks have gone by and it's been meh. Just felt like a long weekend. Work a bit/fun a bit/local attractions a bit. Meh.

So I'm going to take the kids away for 4 days just so we can say we've been somewhere. Hubby going to stay at home and pack the house up.

So where to go? We live in the Midlands. East coast of UK above London would work as not been there much. North Wales too. Not south. Not Scotland. Anywhere else is doable as long as there is enough to keep 7 and 9 year old happy. ie Hill walking 1 day = fun. Hill walking 4 days = rubbish.

Any inspiration? Or deals you know of at this late stage? Thanks

can't help with ideas, but understand feeling. Am in similar boat, our lack of hol caused by refurbishment costs. Just wanted to say you might need to say what your budget is, so people can help with ideas.

    Try https://www.lastminute-cottages.co.uk or eBay.
Dad just got a dad cottage to go to was £695 a week, offered £220 to arrive tomorrow for 4 nights they accepted!
It was on eBay then he googled and rang them directly, saving the eBay fees usually wins.

what about North Wales - you can have a day walking, a day on the beach, a few trips to castles, down mines etc - you could probably get a deal at a caravan site or book a travelodge / premier inns as i know of a few in good locations in this area.

I can post more info if you are interested.. plus lots of threads on here already about north wales if you search

excuse my bad welsh spelling but Canarfan has a travelodge and a premier inn both next door to each other right near the sea front, LLandudno is great for a day out as well

You could get a long weekend at Haven Hafan Y Mor which is a good site with lots for kids that age - fantastic indoor swimming pool and a lovely beach with rock pools for them to explore:

    cheap august deals here:
    http://www.breakfreeholidays.co.uk/haven-accommodation/holidays/

Lots of days out available from that area - up Snowdon walking or rail, on the steam railway , down the lead mines, various castles to explore as well.

We love this area and go every year.

Or having now given some thought to it, somewhere in Yorkshire, basing yourself so you can do the sights of a city break eg York on 1 day and a seaside visit eg Whitby/Scarborough on another.
