How long do you think from offer to moving?

As some of you may know I have just had an offer on my property and have had an offer accepted on a property today.
How long do you think (apart from how long is a piece of string:)) until we can move in?
First time buyers buying my property and property I am buying has no onward chain. Assuming that no problems with mortgages/surveys etc.
Just interested in what could be the shortest timeframe? Thanks

Anywhere from one month to one year (or more) depending on efficieny of all solicitors in the chain and what problems are found with any property in the chain. The longer the chain the more chance something will hold things up.
Most likely - a couple of months.Note: Unless otherwise stated, my property related posts refer to England & Wales. Please make sure you state if you are discussing Scotland or elsewhere as laws differ.0 -
we are at about the same stage as you, we have no chains involved just us and the seller ,
and we have been told and I quote
"it will take as long as it takes" LOL
we are expecting it to be between 10 to 12 weeks0 -
It depends on how proactive your solicitors are generally.0

Similar situation to yourself, we were hoping to exchange today, but it looks like monday with a completion date of next friday.
In all about twelve weeks. Feels like a very very very very long twelve weeks.0 -
It really depends what happens with the mortgage, searches, legal stuff etc!
We had offer accepted 11th June and providing we exchange as planned on Tuesday we will complete 20th August.
So 10 weeks by my calculation?
Edited to say: no chain in my situation, just us as buyers and the seller.0 -
Ok thanks guys/girls. I will plan on it taking a couple of months.
Just seems a long time for the small amount of people involved in our sales, but at least I have an idea roughly.
Glad we are not in a chain of more than 2 houses with the potential for more problems.0 -
My chain was exactly the same as yours, ftb for mine and me buying a property with no onward chain.
Agreed offer on my house on 21 May; offer accepted on the my purchase on 7/6. We just exchanged today - and that was with lots of chasing/ringing/nagging to move things along. We are completing on 12th August so in total, from offer to completion - almost 12 weeks to the day.
12 weeks doesn't sound long, but it was the most stressful 12 weeks I've had!Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes (Oscar Wilde)

We're in a similar position and so far are up to 10 weeks due to incompetent solicitors and 'missing' forms/documents. I've been chasing almost daily but it's still going to be at least 12 weeks. Hoping to exchange next week and complete a week later!
As Full of Angst says it doesn't seem like a long time but it certainly drags and can be quite stressful!
We had our survey done, mortgage offer, etc all ready within 3 weeks (we are selling our flat and buying a house) and are the only ones actually moving (house empty, flat sold to investment buyers) but it's still taken 7 weeks for us to receive all of the information from everyone. That was without any issues identified on surveys, etc!
I'm not holding my breath but hopefully ~12 weeks total!
