Asda glasses???

Went to Asda today and see they have an optition, Asda branded, the glasses seem very cheap, £99 frames and Hoya varifocals, £157 for two pairs.
Boots want £215 for 1 pair and £330 for two!
So are they any good, anyone used them?

I have had single vision glasses from them twice.

    No problems.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I'm very impressed by Asda opticians. Had 2 pairs from there three years ago (1.67 index) and they lasted fine; got 2 pairs of varifocals & 1 single vision sunglasses about two months ago (again super-thin 1.67). By the time my NHS voucher was deducted they cost about 80 pounds!

  • Not impressed quality of their reading glasses is very poor
  • I've used them twice now.
2 pairs 3 years ago, still as good as new.
Got 2 pairs of varifocals last week, 1 reactolite the other pair are sunglasses.
Can't beat the price of £177
    No problems at all.

I've used them several times for varifocals and sunglasses, very pleased with them.

My Wife is a dispensing optician who works for ASDA from time to time - she has to deal with a lot of problems relating to their standard varifocals. Basically they are cheap and basic and especially if you've had a better one before, you may have issues.

I had a lot of problems ranging from incorrect measurements to wonky fitting on both mine and my daughters glasses (2 each) 12 months ago. The store were appalling when it came to customer service and I ended up having to have the lenses redone by a different optician and paid for by Asda head office (who were good).
