  • I love the PAD challenge - even though this is a really tight month and I've still been doing the odd penny here and there - it gives me a rather perverse sense of satisfaction:D

  • Eeek- garage haven't come back with a figure yet but apparently there are several things that need doing and they're pricing it up. That sounds cheap NOT! Me and hubby have set a figure as around 350 as a maximum we will pay- reason being the car cost 600 last year and as a rule we tend to buy a car for around 500 and use it for a year- we could get a car with tax and mot on it for around 500 so it doesn't make much sense to spend more than that to keep this one on the road (tax due next month about 225 for the year). Hubby v fond of this car though- and whilst I like it I'd much rather get something cheaper to run (it's a 2 litre Volvo estate!). Have to wait and see what the garage say.......

  • Ok- 275. Not the end of the world for a 1998 car!
However, dramatic news (dum dum dum!!!) I appear to have been accepted for my masters course (my first hint was an email telling me to enrol tomorrow!! Nothing like a bit of notice!).

So- this will set us back a couple of months, and will no doubt put us under considerable financial, time and emotional pressure during the next two years or so- but I'm so happy to be moving forward in my career again. Can't believe I'm going to be a student AGAIN!

  • Hi loving the diary. I like Downton too.:) I am also obsessed with saving money, I think you need to be to tackle debt:D
  • Also, had a mini victory today- got so irritated by my experian account continually not working despite them repeatedly emailing me to say it was that I emailed off a rant to them stating how appalled I was at a credit company only providing support through a premium rate number, thus taking advantage of a vulnerable section of society. I'm not normally so pompous but it worked and they emailed me an apology and a free-phone number to contact them on. I feel better now. So I now have my report from equifax, experian and noddle and they all say exactly the same thing- not bad but COULD DO BETTER lol!

Watching Great British bake off- didn't know custard tarts could create such tension- gripping tv!

  • Congratulations on becoming a student again! I was a mature student (ha ha!) a few years ago, and although it is extremely hard work, it is all worth it in the end!

You're sounding so very positive, its rubbing off on me a bit! You're right about next December not being that far off, thats when we're aiming to be free too. Like you, since OH and I have been together I've had debt, it will be amazing to be free of it.

    Keep up the good spirits!

**Feeling Hopeful that 2015 will be our Debt Free Year**
  • So, enrolled yesterday- and am v excited about it, but also v guilty as I know it will push pack our DFD by two and a half months at least (doesn't sound like a big deal but so soon after having pledged to get rid of debt feels a bit like a failure?). Anyway, the commitment is made. I paid £50 of the fees (will call that my PAD?!?) and there is 1845 left to pay. I think we will put it on virgin as they have just written to us with another 0% deal. Now of course we'll be paying the fee but it does mean that we can control the repayments whereas if we signed up to a loan we wouldn't.

On my signature (when we get deal set up and paid) I'll put it as a seperate debt though- which might sound daft but it will help me to consider it an investment rather than just another debt piled on the card. Some weird logic here, but whatever gets me through the day eh?)

Also I think our mot will have to be on credit- but tax should be able to be paid in cash, and we've also paid back my mother in law who lent us a little money last month, which I'm glad about.

Bought something I wanted rather than needed today but think it was worth it, from a Facebook selling page I bought a mamas and papas rocking ladybird. They retail at around 100 and this one is in excellent condition and cost £10 - so I've put that away for my daughters Christmas present. If only we could buy everyone second hand stuff! Sadly I don't think it would go down too well with most of my relatives :(

Anyway, debt has increased considerably in the last two days (will update totals in a few days), but it's all good really- and we're still moving forward.

    Tee-hee, feel like I've confessed!!
