Floss, Lughnassadh is the celebration of the First Harvest; named for Lugh, the Celtic god of wisdom and light. Some call it Lammas (derived from "loaf-mass", from the baking of loaves made from the first harvest) but I personally prefer the Celtic name.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

According to my late mum, I always used to have Start-rite when I was a kid, as I had a very narrow heels :0 I think they used to be a bit more expensive than Clarks...
I always bought my children Start-right shoes. They were dearer than Clarks but much harder wearing and so much better made. I used to take them to this grubby little shop in the High Street owned by this funny little man but he knew his shoes. He always had a good range to choose from.
Ive just had an old friend come to the door to deliver a parcel. As he handed over the thing for me to sign it dawned on me who he was. 'I was wondering how long it would take you to recognise me' he said. I bet I haven't seen him for 10 years or so. Its my day for meeting people I think.:TThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

When I read your first post I Googled Lughnassadh - I should have just carried on reading!
I recognised Lammas though, from historical novels etc.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hello all!
What a cr^p day here, the fun just keeps on coming. One of my oldest friends, we met at nursery about 43 years ago, has been a bit breathless so went for some tests, xrays were abnormal so had a ct scan, she has a large lump in a breast and multiple spots in her lungs, just turned 47, her husband died 3 years ago and she has 3 kids although 2 are adults, doesn't sound good but she will go in next week for biopsies and further tests, she has been very supportive for me since OHs illness and death as her OH spent some time in IITU before he died and she was one of the few who understood............I am gutted, keeping everything crossed but ......
it never ceases to amaze me how much life can dump crud on some people, she's had such a hard time and has just been getting on her feet,
Anyways enough of my moaning, have done absolutely nothing today apart from taking mum for her shopping, and have just opened a bottle of wine, I fear this will be another sleepless night!!!!!RIP Iain

Oh that's awful news. I hope the lumps are not as bad as they sound.
Just come back from T*sc0 and theres a storm brewing. We've got thunder and flashes of lightening but its not raining yet. I presume the rain will come later. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Evening all,
Torrential rain and thunder interspersed with blue skies and warm sun here, with nothing better promised for the long weekend. I think that when I was a child we had more thunder storms but then I also think that apart from them the sun shone all day....memories aren't always exact after 60 odd years I suppose.
Dumpling....I always bought Startrite shoes for my brood when they were small and found them an excellent product, if more expensive than Clarkes. I didn't know that they were still on the market and am glad to hear it, good products should be supported as so much of what we pay huge sums for to-day fall apart within a short time.
We celebrate Lughnasa ( Irish language spelling, same pronounciation) as DS1 is Lugh ( too long a story). He suffered lots of ribbing because of it but he was always a bit chuffed to have a different name.
Jools...sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully she will recover.
Hester...nice to see a bit of your 'get up and go' returning, just don't overdo things please.
We had a lovely lunch in DD4's to-day, pasta with nice sauce, followed by icecream, coffee and biscuits....we felt spoilt.
Nar....assumed you were in Bangor in Wales so thought you had lost the plot when you said that your DD was gone to Dublin by train, then realised that you are in Co Down....not always at my sharpest these days!
Hugs and positive vibes for all who are ill or have troubles of any kind, stay safe and sleep well
