Tesco Mislabelling product weights

Ok so it's hardly the crime of the century, but still I found this to be very aggravating, especially since after informing Tesco they have still not correctly changed their mistake!

So essentially whenever I go shopping I always try to get the best deal, I spend a bit longer to work out price per kg/litre etc etc (Trying to be money savvy and all that jazz). On Monday evening I was buying cheese, and ended up buying Mu cheddar as it was £2 for 350g and it looked like the best deal in comparison to others available.

I noticed afterwards however that the shelf label incorrectly stated the weight as 350g, and the product was in fact 310g. Again its not the worst thing ever, but I still found it a little annoying since I was particularly trying to get the best deal.

I notified Tesco via e-mail to alert them to this, and they replied:

"I would like to assure you, that I have spoken to our store duty manager, xxxxx, who went to check the shelf edge labels and can confirm that all the labels appear to be correct and showing as 310g"

After the suggestion that I was lying, I forwarded a picture I had taken the previous evening showing the anomaly to prove the point I had made was valid (i don't like them trying to say I was the one who had made an error,....), the response....

"I can see that the shelf edge label does appear to be incorrect therefore, I have raised this concern with xxxxx (different name), duty manager within the store who has advised me she will check immediately, she believes this may be due to a change in the product codes"

Ok so if its an error that is fair enough, mistakes happen. But clearly I found it frustrating that they initially said the store manager had said there was no problem!!

So why am I ranting? Well I returned to the store this evening, and did a quick check past the cheese. It is STILL marked as 350g on the shelf label! This is 3 days after I initially raised the complaint and after 2 managers have apparently both been to check the product!

I wonder how many others may have been fooled into thinking they were getting more cheese than they actually were! Arghhh its only 40g of cheese I know but its the principle...and the fact that Tesco have done nothing about it!!

It may only be 40g but it means you are only getting 88.5% of the product for the price.

Not just like that they won't. It's hardly like each TS office has 200 people all sat down clicking their thumbs just waiting for someone to phone and complain about a shelf edge label. TS are very stretched.

    Erm, yes they do.

Case in point, my Sainsbury's were selling ready meals from their deli counter without heating instructions (breach of TS), OH sent them an email, 2 days later an inspector phoned him for details, next day he went into the store, day after he phoned my OH with the outcome.

The clue is on their job title, it's what they are there for. How else do you think they find out about things and act on them? Telepathy, then sit back and hope the problem goes away?

My local Tesco Extra are very sloppy about shelf edge labels and stock rotation.

I check everything before I put it in the trolley and then check the receipt before leaving the store.

I'd shop at a different store but it's really handy.
And I do quite well with DTD because of all their mistakes. :)

If I see an offer that's out of date, I buy the item (assuming I would buy it anyway - no point in buying 10 packs of Pampers when I'm childless (and obviously grand-children-less) :rotfl:and hot-foot it to the CS desk for my dosh.

    Actually, they will.

Because there is an actual offence being committed, and the evidence is immediately available, it is well worth their while to do something about it straight away, leaving less cut and dried cases that may require continued investigation as a lower priority

Sadly, most managers and an awful lot of the staff wouldn't recognise a 4-point check or what to do with this issue if it bit them on the backside.

I suspect this is probably one where the size has changed, but the EAN (Barcode) hasn't. Basically this means that whoever is tasked with checking would just grab one off the shelf and print a new label, which would still be wrong.

With these, we have to wait for commercial to catch up and alter the size on the label. The 'correct' procedure in this case is to put up a sign advising of the issue.

(You would be surprised at the number of times I put in a helpdesk ticket a day for issues like this...)

They will not go with just one phone call. I know someone who is a TS officer.

They tend to prefer to be working on the more cowboy builders etc, they kind of people who take thousands from people particularly the elderly then do nothing or !!!! everything up.

It would take multiple calls from people to go and visit a specific Supermarket issue.

Like I said, their job involves a lot more than Supermarket SEL's!!!
