    OK so Postie sorts it

It doesn't matter who sorts it. It is sorted into postcode then number order (or, where appropriate, reverse number order)before he goes out on this "walk".

That's how they do it. I've seen them

    tim

But the order of the walk won't necessarily follow the postcodes - it depends on the layout of the road. You might do one side of the road, then another, or you might go round in a square. You don't just follow blindly follow postcode order.

When we bought our house it had a name which we decided to change. I rang our council (can't remember which dept offhand, but I have the letter so can check)

I simply gave her the name that we wanted to change it to, she went and checked that there were no other houses with the same name within our postcode and as there wasn't she actioned the change, informed all the necessary people ( Royal Mail, 999 etc)

There was no cost and she confirmed the change of name by letter to keep for our records.

If the RM sorting machines sort the mail by postcode, this is interesting.

When I moved in Jan 2010, the 2nd half of my post code was the same, but the letters were flipped. So instead of GH, its now HG though the first half of the pc was different as moved 5 miles away.

Some of my friends and relatives continued to put GH on my mail to me and I still received it. There is a road with the post code ending in GH and that is 400 yards away.

I suspect the postie read the first line of the address and put in the pigeon hole for my road.

    Not really an issue
'intra' missorts are common and simply passed over

So you do know that walks aren't always in order of the postcode, so what was the point in your initial comment?!
But I expect them to sort their mail into "postcode order" and then walk up/down the streets in that order. (That is, AIUI why they are ordered as they are)

Our house came with a name and it is a crap name that i am determined to let it die out...Like private registration plates they are for pretentious !!!!!!-heads.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

In my previous rental property I had problems because the landlord changed the name of the property. It meant that property A showed up on the electoral roll but property A2 didn't. It also caused issues when I tried to give my address over the phone as some databases had one address and some the other.

I had to get the address corrected at the local council to the newer one, as this was not done automatically. In fact it only came to light that it was an issue when I had issues with my credit report. It has led to me having a dual address to show that the place had a double name.

If you are changing the name, make sure that the name change is given to all parties else it will flash up as a discrepancy and may cause you financial issues.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
