Could anyone please tell me what it is that so many people have against British Gas boiler installations?
Thank you.
Thank you.

i'm sure that the majority of BG engineers are competant and will do a good job, however this will come at a cost, it will be a lot more expensive than your local plumber0

Had a quote from BG few years ago, £3500 for new boiler and removal of old oil fired boiler, local plumber did the job for just under £1800, shop around.0

BG quote £6k, local RGI £3.5k and the RGI actually spoke to us to help us decide what we wanted! BG guy said virtually nothing during his visit.0

Our problem is that BG are asking £2600 for a Worcester Greenstar 24i. Our favoured independent is asking for £2105 plus VAT for the same boiler. Both include a system clean, the independent is including a new thermostat. We enquired with two other independents but narrowed it to this one.0

So your gut is telling you to go with your selected indie? Why not do it then?

Because he (and the independent who came second) aren't the huge savings on BG we were expecting!
We're in London if that makes any difference.0 -
if you post up the details of the quotes we might have more of an ideaI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
i work for bg and can honestly say its by far the best company i've worked for, we're never really going to compete with local plumbing prices, but i know a few people in the game, and alot are going in with really cheap prices just to pay bills, bet if you asked most plumbers would they work for bg, deep down they would, annoys me a bit when people say these horror storys about engineers scaring people and told to cut off boilers, thats rubbish! if that was the case there'd be uproar, we do over 100000 boilers a year, ok not all will be perfect, but i bet the ones not gone smoothly got sorted in the end
your independent was 2105 plus vat so £2526, not much less than BG, and with BG u get ya homecare plus its fixed price quote, i'd say it was worth the extra anyway
is it a combi boiler ur getting?0 -
Well if BG had come in at their normal £4-5k then you wouldn't have been disappointed. Perhaps they've woken up.Because he (and the independent who came second) aren't the huge savings on BG we were expecting!
Its a big place. We're in London if that makes any difference.
