yes daveyjp, some will overload cables. when people bypass the electric and gas meters there is no brighter and warmer houses than when they are getting it free. Thats when the overloaded electric wires begin starting fires. I could envisage people running extension cables to neighbours houses for free heat. there must be some sort of "fair useage " cap to avoid that sort of thing
SG27 , that is one of the main reasons for giving a Saturday free, to move from the high price and high demand times 4 pm to 7 pm where the cost of production is a lot more. They want you to do the heavy use electrical items on that day

The driver for "Smart Meters" is to move to "Time of Day Tariffs".
Any benefits to customers monitoring costs is secondary.

The industry is working towards around six periods during the day when rates will vary, plus special offers at the weekend depending on the time of year.

And we are being told tariffs are to be simplified!!!!!!!!!!!!

These risks are basically completely made up by those who at best don't understand the evidence.
If you take the position that smart meters are harmful, you must also rationally not have any wifi, bluetooth or mobile phones in your property.

Don't believe everything you read. :rotfl:

Of course they'd love to charge for peak and off-peak usage but health risks? Show me some peer reviewed studies.

OK - I intend to use the free electricity to pump millions of gallons of water up to a huge reservoir and release it gradually over the week to generate electricity !!

I reckon the Smart meter deal is great for hi-tech burglars. If they hack into the system and observe your normal usuage then they know when you go on a holiday or when you are not in for example.

They could just sit outside and wait for you to leave, to know you are not in.

    No hacking required.
