Better would be to charge up tonnes of batteries which are used to power the house for the next 6 days.....
  • Personally I think they're getting in early for any potential OFGEM tariff simplification - imagine a situation where all suppliers have to charge a flat predetermined standing charge, with a unit rate at the discretion of the company.

BG have always been uncompetitive on price, but they can throw in "Oh but we give you free energy on a Saturday". QUite cunning really

I get my smart meter soon.

I'm sure it would get abused in some way. I'll be the first to admit I'll save all the washing for a Saturday, tumble dry it if its raining, charge everything and batch cook for the day. No doubt we (or somebody) will be paying for it somewhere along the line, and I'm certain it won't be BG!

In some areas of Leeds sat & sun have been free for years for off peak electricity. Most folk don't realise they get it but....they pay a higher unit rate than E7 customers so give in one hand take in another.

That is what BG want. They plainly say that they are trying to encourage people to use more energy at the weekend, and less during the week when businesses place more load on the network.

Whether that is true or BG BS, who knows.

Correct, one of the reason for smart metering is to get a better balance of when we use energy. As part of the smart trials customers have been offered free use at weekends or happy hour after 6pm.

Why? Well between 3-6pm last year Ferrybridge went through 800t of coal per hour!!

Expensive for energy companies and you.
