Terminating my T-mobile contract
Hello,
I am new to the forums, so I hope I have posted this in the right place!
I have 2 mobile contracts with T-mobile. I use one for my S3 and the other is used by my dad on his iphone. I pay aprox 65 pounds per month for both.
I have noticed over the past few months my signal is insufficient. I regularly connect to my Wi-Fi when I am at home to watch videos or use the internet. My friend came to my house once and he was using my phone and commented on how slow my internet is compared to his (he is on 02).
I've have since started to make a record of my internet/connection and calls. Over 3 days, I have counted up 6 disconnected calls and 3 occasions were I haven't been able to use my internet. I have made a note of these days and times.
I contacted EE (T-mobile or whatever they call themselves now) to complain and the lady was very nice, in fact almost too nice! She confirmed I have a 3 out of 5 connectivity rate in my area. She recommended I connect onto either EE or Orange's network and this should improve the signal.
Well, today I now have 1 bar of signal showing on my phone with EE's coverage. I am not able to make calls as it disconnects. The internet is telling me I don't have enough data services.
I am now annoyed and want to terminate both my contracts with EE. (Note : both lines have signal problems). However I am 6 months into one contract and 18 months into the other - both 24 month contracts.
Am I able to do this without having to pay a termination fee? I am almost certain I can as T-mobile/EE have not held up their end of the contract.
I am hoping to send them a letter within the next couple of weeks to terminate the contract so I can move over to 02.

Hello,
I am new to the forums, so I hope I have posted this in the right place!.
Welcome...I have noticed over the past few months my signal is insufficient.
I am now annoyed and want to terminate both my contracts with EE. (Note : both lines have signal problems). However I am 6 months into one contract and 18 months into the other - both 24 month contracts.
No network guarantees coverage in all locations, and especially indoors, is the signal as bad outside the house? The nature of radio waves means there are inevitable blackspots in some places.
It's possible something in your homes walls is attenuating the signal, or a block of flats or new office building has been built between you and the transmitter creating the issue.
It could also be that the mast in your area has a fault, or since the Orange/Tmobile merger the mast you used to use has been decommissioned permanently so you are using a different mast to before.
Unfortunately for you the fact you've lived with it for a few months could be seen as accepting the issue. also as you have had the contracts a while without complaining could also be seen as accepting the issue, if you'd reported it as soon as you got them you may be in a better position.Am I able to do this without having to pay a termination fee? I am almost certain I can as T-mobile/EE have not held up their end of the contract.

Sorry this is not what you want to hear, but TM have held up their end of the contract, they are supplying you with the ability to make calls in most places, and unless you got in writing when you took the contact out that it would work at your home address you have very little recourse legally. 1 bar is almost useless but it shows you are getting a service (just).
You may be better calling up each month asking for a goodwill refund on your line rental, but obviously that depends how you use the phone, if your records show your using a lot of your allowance (say when out and about) then it would be hard to say you are not getting the service you paid for.
I'd suspect you will find it very difficult to terminate without a fee, but good luck...0 -
I think you will be out of luck and have to pay to terminate the contract.
30 day "SIM only" contracts have a lot going for them...0 -
Thank you both for your replies.
I've been with T-mobile for 9 years on contract and 3 years prior to that one PAYG. Although they were one2one then.
In regards to the signal, it doesn't just happen at home or indoors. I could be out and about and the call will disconnect in the middle of a conversation.
I agree it will look like I accepted the problem. As I disregard the problem on the assumption that it was my mobile which was faulty as I had dropped and smashed the screen. It took me 6 months to finally get a replacement.
As for the second line I have, it was previously used on my dongle for internet services occasionally. But it wasn't great then either (speed wise) but it did the job.
I've had more problems this weekend with the phones I was using my phone as a satnav as I was visiting family in Preston and the phone lost complete signal. In the end I had to use my mother's Vodafone.
I've been researching online and talking to friends and I have heard that EE have reduced their t-mobile and orange network to encourage their customers to move over to the 4G EE network. Do you think this is true? Because I am beginning to wonder.0
