Isnt this why the banks are being bought into question about this? putting ppi on without peoples knowledge?

The banks are being taken up for mis-selling. This does not make them all mis-sold. If it was fraudulently added, which you claim, then that is a very severe allegation. Most PPI cannot be added without you knowing. Whether you ignore it or dont check it is a different matter. However, your allegation is not so much mis-sale but an allegation of fraud. So, what evidence do you have to support your allegation?

You cant just say "I didnt know I had it" and expect them to refund it. Especially when they say you applied via the post and it shows you requested it. If you had complained within weeks or months of it appearing on the statement, then that makes you very credible. Complaining all these years later with no evidence and an unprovable allegation makes you look opportunistic.

This is not to put you off going to the FOS. We dont have the benefit of seeing the documentation. The FOS will. However, if what Barclaycard say is true and no other wrongdoing is identified you would not expect success. That is unless the amount of PPI you paid is less than the FOS fee and Barclaycard decide to pay out as the cheaper option. That is you getting lucky rather than you actually being confirmed as a mis-sale.

I would take it to the FOS anyway, I had the same problem with mine and they ruled in my favor .
I didn't know/ could remember paying PPI didn't even know really what it was, I didn't ask for it even though they said I did but wouldn't/couldn't supply any evidence that I asked it was only when looking through some old paperwork I noticed it, my own silly fault for not question it at the time.

So I would try and take it to the FOS what the worse that can happen is them saying no which is where you are now but just be prepared to wait a while even though they seam to deal with barclays claims fast, I have had a halifax one with them for 1 year and heard nothing the barclaycard ones x 2 have taken 4 months so you never know.
