After having huge problems attempting to cancel my subscription to match.com I thought I would warn people against joining....
MATCH.COM HELP PAGE....
How do I cancel automatic renewal of my subscription?
You can view information about your current subscription including the date of the next scheduled payment (if automatic renewal is active) under the "my subscription" heading which can be found under your username which is located on the top right of every page.
REALITY ...
There is no link called "my subscription" under the username located on the top right of every page.
MATCH.COM HELP PAGE....
You can cancel the automatic renewal of your subscription by following the instructions given on your "my account settings" page, which can be reached via the "my account" menu displayed at the top of any page when you are logged into the site.
REALITY ...
Not quite an accurate description but we can get to the "my account settings" page easily enough, so great all we need to do is follow the instructions on this page to cancel the automatic payments. OK, well there are no instruction on this page per se but there is a "Manage your subscription" link, surely this must be the place where I can cancel the subscription, wonderful!
And what do I find on this page .... "You can cancel the automatic renewal by following the instructions given on your "My account" page." ... Err haven't I just been there? So they end sending users in a circle arriving at the starting position with no way of cancelling the subscription.
Seriously, its beyond a joke, it is a deliberate ploy by the owners of match.com to make it is difficult as possible to cancel their overpriced subscription. After googling this issue with match.com you find that they also are guilty of continuing payments even when people have somehow managed to contact match are ask them to stop taking payments.
No doubt some people do hook up on Match but by and large I don't think that is the norm for their users and the way users are treated by Match is a dispicable, and they are completely overcharge for something a simple as a profile on a dating website. BUYER BEWARE

Dating websites are a scam anyway. Check out the BBC Panorama show Tainted love. It's about how dating websites have loads of fake profiles and pay people to use the fake profiles to contact people during their free trial so that they think they're popular and pay to sign up.

Hi all
sorry to jump onto someone elses thread but didn't know how to start a new one. Wondering if anyone can help point me in the direction of if I have any options/any websites I can contact to try get a refund from match.com. You can see from the below link I am not the only one who has had the same problem - where try to complete the website to say you do not want match.com to auto-renew your subscription - complete all the steps but due to a 'system glitch' it does not go through correctly so they charge me £78 to renew. They confirmed that they can see an attempt was made to cancel but as did not go through on the system correctly they cannot refund me. As you can see from the link below I am not the only one this has happened to.
Is there anywhere I can go to escalate this to try get my money back? I have tried match.com many times but they are not budging
thanks

Me & my husband don't think so...we met on one 10 years ago, married 3 years ago. And personally I signed up because I wanted to, not because I was "popular".0 -
Three words: Direct Debit Guarantee - http://www.directdebit.co.uk/DirectDebitExplained/Pages/DirectDebitGuarantee.aspx
Email the site and advise that you will contact your bank in x days to make a claim under the guarantee. Then if no refund contact your bank and then ask that the payment is reversed as the DD scheme has been misused by the vendor.
I've used this on a number of occasions (magazine subscriptions etc renewed when I had asked to be cancelled etc). The banks tend not to want to do it and will tell you to contact the vendor.
I just turn around and tell them that under the DD guarantee they are obligated to sort it for me and I'm not prepared to do any more to sort out. Payment refunded instantly.
Good luck"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
I met a lass on match.com. To say she was "not as described" was a massive underestimation. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

When you say "within 30 minutes", do you mean that you tried to cancel 30 minutes after the 30 day trial or was it 30 minutes before?
If it was after (even if only by a minute), then I'm afraid that they do have the right to charge you for another month provided that this was shown in the terms that you agreed to when opening the account.0 -
Can people not contact their bank? I know that it used to be hard to cancel things if you had given them the 'long' card number, but many banks now have a department specifically for dealing with this kind of thing.
Nobody has any right to continue to take your money.0 -
