I guess from underneath when it was on the ramp - it's an mot testing place as well so I think they did what they could but couldn't open bonnet

Fair enough, next time you look at a car, look at the engine, even if you know nothing about cars you can see if it has been steam cleaned to remove oil leaks, if it has been filled, if it opens at all, if any bits are missing, if the radiator cap has been replaced with a libby's tomato juice bottle cap etc.

It's not faulty climate control..someone has removed the radiator for it for some reason. It's a 2007 vauxhall Astra. The RAC inspected another vehicle he offered and had serious reservations about it. He clearly is a crook using different names etc.. I don't have confidence this car would be properly repaired and also I have been two weeks without a car now and I need a car

The unit sits right at the front of the car, and they are often hit with stones and punctured. Someone could well have removed it rather than spend £114 on a new one.

    b) it's a £3500 car - 50% of them will have [STRIKE]faulty[/STRIKE] non-working A/C!

    Is that better?

It's been over 4 weeks now and I had the car for 4 days. It is being advertised again on Gumtree but he is using the Car wash next to the garage as the seller. The DVLA have said they never received the log book so it looks like it wasn't going to be transferred into my name anyway. I clearly am going to have to start court action and have had to hire a car the last 10 days and also bought another car today on finance.
Does anyone know if I need a Solicitor to start a small claims action?

Law enforcement agencies are obvously not interested on this one, due to effort being needed to investigate this trader. So what are we paying taxes for? For easy law enforcement on mainly law abiding citizens only?

Trading Standards make it clear they rarely take on and follow through individual cases, but they will often create a file on a trader as it becomes apparent their activities are regular and seek to prosecute then.
CAB are merely a free advice agency.

The County Court is for individual cases. Or if it transpires the guy is using a false identity then the police may be interested.

They couldn't check car fully as bonnet was jammed down and cable broken.
You bought a used car without even looking under the bonnet?
