I am heading off to the sun next week and like many people want to keep up to date by using the internet on my pay monthly contract. I got in touch with T Mobile and my roaming has been switched on.

From what I have read and what T Mobile told me I cannot run up any sort of bill by using the internet as I need to buy an internet booster and when that runs out I can't access the internet unless I buy another one.

I wondered if anyone has any experience of these boosters and if this is in deed correct, as it seems quite foolproof and means I don't need to worry about racking up a big bill.

Thanks in advance

T Mobile seem to have the best roaming system that I have seen, and have used "internet travel boosters" on both payg and contract with t mobile in the past.

Basically to use data abroad you have to buy a booster by sending a text message - I think you get a text message giving instructions how to send the text message as soon as you arrive in your foreign country.

The good thing is you are in control as you can only use the data you have pre-purchased, typically £10 for 50mb in europe, and get cut off once it is used up, with a text inviting you to buy another booster. I found a this normally good for a typical day's usage, so budgeted for £10 per day for data. For a longer break I would look at a local data sim, but my last holiday was only 4 days so did not bother.

Some networks seem to only allow limited data per day at cheap rates then dump you on a silly rate like £7 per mb with no warning.

Thanks for that it does seem that for once all is what is advertised. I will look forward to being able to use the internet and be in control of what is being spent and no massive bill to come home to.
