VW warranty arguement

I can't believe that people accept that 13k miles from a set of disks is "wear & tear" - if that's normal then it's a sodding design flaw!
Tree hugger pads or not, if manufacturers are managing to convince the motoring public that that's an acceptable life then said motoring public needs to be taken out and shot for their own good beofre they forget to breathe in!0 -

cars do drink oil, some more than others & are you sure on your last service your brakes were inspected properly with the wheels off & brakes cleaned because dealers don't usually do that without charging extra & if there was a problem that should have been found at the time.
one vehicle or garage don't represent all the others
This is our 4th Mazda. But thanks for your concern. We have a man that comes and does all our vehicles and we trust him implicitly.Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0 -
A bloke I know just took his honda jazz, to the dealer, because a window does not move, and they fixed it free, even though it's out of warranty.
The bloke he sits next to noticed a problem with him air con on a 3 month old VW, and he's had to leave the car on 3 separate occassions and did not get a replacement because they wanted £15 a day for the use of it.
When he got it back fixed he noticed that the dust covers on the air con pipes had not been fitted.
Enough said ?0 -
Friend had a VW Bora about seven years ago that used about a litre of oil a month, sometimes more and was told it "was within tolerances". Nothing wrong with it per say but slightly alarming consumption on a modern engine.
the only thing I would say regarding Mazda is a number of their cars through the mid nougthies had a bit of a rust issue. The Mazda 6 in particular would rust at 4 years old. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

I didn't say that I thought it was acceptable
But it is fairly "normal" depends on the way that they are used.
Since I have an auto, and I know far better than the manufacturer how to drive it, I brake to a stop, and hold the car on the footbrake, which is a good way to start depositing friction material in one spot.
Once this happens, it gets worse as the brakes are used.
I guess I've just filed it in the "Nothing lasts like it did in The Olden Days" drawer and moved on, I can buy & fit a set of discs & pads for about £80, and an hours work on a Saturday morning.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Yes, because of course VW openly encouraged people to come in to have their Teves MK60s checked out :rotfl:0 -

In 200k miles in my last 2 cars (both Fiat diesels) I have never had to put oil in between services (12k then 21k intervals)
If I had a car that was running through 1litre of oil and was not made before 1972 (or a Mazda RX) I would be worried, its just not normal for a modern engine to use oil like that.0 -

Is is normal for VWs (1800 I think), and BMW Mini Cooper. Both will empty the sump in around 5000-6000 miles if you don't top them up (no -one does, they wait till the oil light comes on)
Our Suzuki and Nissan never use a drop in between services.
Neither did the Corsa or 2litre Vectra we had before. (The 1600 vauxhalls drink oil)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
