Now fixed Sky HD box only records some channels.

I got a Sky HD box to replace my noisy SD box from a friend and connected it up and put my card in.

After a few minutes I got my regional channels and after playing about for a little while I have found that I can live pause and record the free channels, BBC1 etc but not the paid for channels.

I can set the paid for channels up to record but they don't record, and I get a message on the planner that the recording failed.

Is there a solution for this without calling Sky from my expensive Virgin Media landline.

I tried Sky's fix it online but that never worked and was told to call Sky.

The last time I called Sky it cost me almost £10.

I did find a few 0800 numbers for Sky but I guess Sky don't want me to use them as I can't get through on them.

As from 4pm today I can now record all channels,
I wonder why it took so long?

You need Sky to pair the card to the box.

You need to pair the card to the box and I think you can do it here - http://activatemychannels.sky.com/

Tried that, didn't work, then I called Sky, after half an hour of "let me try this, do that, I will have to talk to someone, etc. wait 24 hours"

Still cannot record or live pause all the channels.

Do Sky not like you using a box that they haven't supplied?

I think I'll just go back to my noisy SD box.

Anyone got a freephone number or even a 01 number I can call from a Virgin line free at the weekend?

Well, Sky would have supplied it originally, to its first owner.

Sky would prefer you to buy and use a secondhand box.

If Sky gave you a new one, it would have to subsidise the cost of it and support it under warranty (including call-out costs) for a year.

The boxes and dishes have always been a loss-leader for Sky.

Rupert's genius was to give them away instead of charging for them.

    0800 096 3624 (free from any UK landline) or 020 7126 7020.
