Why? They consider the main driver when quoting ( I was told). Also, you have to be careful about 'fronting'. If the put son down as a second or non-main driver (for example), that could invalidate the insurance.
In my son's case, we did shop around and did include me as a second driver but it didn't make a "considerable" difference at all. However, my insurance covers me to drive it anyway.
I never mentioned fronting at all.
I said add named drivers. When my step daughter passed her test 6 years ago. Adding me and my partner who both had full NCD to her policy as named drivers almost halved the premium.
Was with direct line I think.0
