Gutted, I and many others used to extend auctions without bids from 3 days, to 5, to 7 and on to 10 to increase exposure. Worked a treat as well.

We wanted to let you know that in the next few days, the option to extend your listing duration using our listing tools will be changed.
Sellers will notice that once 2 hours have passed after the start time of their listing, the ability to change their listing’s duration will be removed from the Sell Your Item form, Turbo Lister, and any third-party tools which use our API. We have kept a 2-hour window available so that sellers will still have the opportunity to correct the duration of their listing if they discover they have listed their item with the wrong duration.
We are making this change to support the important policy change we made earlier this year, limiting the practice of extending the duration of an Auction-style format listing. Auction-style format listing duration extensions disrupt normal bidding patterns, creating a poor buyer experience. Some sellers were also using this ability to gain an advantage for their Auction-style format listings in terms of exposure on the site.
For more details, please read our Fee Circumvention policy.
Regards,
The eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie Teams

It was on the cards..when they first made the announcement some months back they didn't actually go through with it. Instead at that point they obviously decided to stagger the implementation and instead of stopping it, they merely made it a reportable offence under the fee circumvention rules.
When I've ever amended mine due to things ending on a day I end up working or on a holiday 'I forgot' I've never done it in the first 2 hours, I've always noticed it about the last two or three days, so no more safety net for me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. read that on ebay earlier, they keep banging on about auctions, bids and what not, so will this apply to buy-it-now listings too?0
-
I have only recently started doing that and it was working a treat, saving me at least a fiver a week in fees, drat (AND OTHER 4 LETTER WORDS)!!!!"There is a light that never goes out"0

So, I'd better change my auctions today before it kicks in.0

funny how these little changes never benefit us financially?!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

If you have no bids it should be allowed, if you have bids it should not be possible. A good idea taken too far.0

Does it cost more to have a longer auction period? Sorry, new to ebaying!
KateSaving to pay the tax man0 -
No, it costs the same regardless of duration, but the USA site (ebay.com)charges extra for 10 day listings.
Will that be the shape of things to come to the UK site??<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
That's daft they the only reason I used to extend was to get a sale and I often dropped the price to attract buyers at the same time. So they lose out on the final value fee and successful relists are credited the relist fee anyway.0
