These cameras are not at all expensive - they start at under £20.

Most are capable of recording at night too.

Of course the latest 'state of the art' jobs have inbuilt GPS location it gives a reading on the screen of date , time, location, and very helpull in the event of an accident - your speed.

But for that - you pay much more.

Mine has a 16GB memory card and always had the last 8 hours of driving time stored.

I have dash cameras in my car and have caught some real bad driving, one was when I was driving round a tight car and this other car came round on my side of the road, I only just missed them....if they hit me it would of gone 50/50 for sure but with the camera I would of had a much better chance of it going a non fault claim.

You only need 1 accident for it to pay for itself.

Not that much more -- about £60 or so.

I believe the main reason for Russians all having dash-cams in their cars though is the very high prevalence of insurance fraud -- it's a common scam to drive slowly in the right-hand lane (lots of Russian roads are four-lane affairs with no central reservation), have someone overtake near a junction and turn across their path without indicating.

Without a camera it would be near-impossible to defend against this.

(And yes, I know it would be more sensible to wait until after the junction).

These crazy accidents being caught are mostly just a result of at least one camera view being available at every accident, in a very large country.
  • Hmm, that's not a huge amount of money for peace of mind. .. looks like front and rear car-cams have just found their way onto my shopping list! ;)

Not 100% piece of mind, as it may prove that YOU were the one to blame for the accident !!!!

I would just get a front facing one though, as I had front and rear cameras but don't really see the point in the rear one now, unless someone runs in the back of your and speeds off behind.

I bought some Blackvue HD cameras with GPS, picture is crystal clear even at night. There are cheaper ones on the market.

Whoever the bloke was that was taking the pictures is a bit of a jinx, wherever he went people are crashing in front of him.

It's been on our local radio this morning that according to the latest insurance reports Liverpool is the whiplash Capital of the Country. I knew we were good at something. So after watching those clips i think it must be worth buying a couple of £20 cameras.

My dad has front and rear car-cam's. So far he has video evidence that around 80% of men pick their nose whilst driving in the morning. I thought he had lost the plot but it has proved quite amusing!
