Jimmy Choo Shoes!

So, I was luckily treated to a pair of designer shoes and therefore chose a nude pair of high heeled Jimmy Choos. These are not every day shoes and cost £395. After 8-10 wears the straps have broken on the heel - have taken them back to Harvey Nicolls with the receipt and asked them to be fixed. They have said its down tonJimmy Choo, but i am so annoyed that I have spent £400 on a pair of shoes which I have owned since Feb 2012 but I swear have worn no more than 10 times and they are broken! Anyone??

they're outside the 12 month guarantee from the store, so speak to jimmy choo.
incidentally, the brand name of those shoes is slang in my household for what you do in the bathroom.
'gimme a few minutes - i'm bursting for a jimmy choo'helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
I would contact Jimmy Choo...maybe easier.
If no joy, for a £400 pair of shoes which, I know as a female would be used as taxi-door shoes and probably VERY little wear.
I'd go back to Harvey Niks and say you want to make a claim under SOGA. An independent cobbler will knock up a report for £10-£20 if required. They will really be able to tell if the shoes have been worn into the ground.
You have 6 years to claim under soga potentially. 18 months for 10 wears? No way would I accept that as reasonable for premium shoes.0 -
Does paying over the odds for a fashion statement mean the shoes will last any longer? I think the OP will be on to plums with this especially from the retailer. I would have thought there would be more chance with the manufacturer.0

What '12 month guarantee'? The SOGA is clear and specific. It's the retailer's responsibility to resolve problems, not the manufacturer's.
However, sometimes manufacturers pride themselves on good service and will be happy to investigate so it's not necessarily a bad idea to contact them, but it's important to know that the legal onus is on the retailer, not the manufacturer.
After six months from purchase, the onus is on you to demonstrate that the fault is inherent, OP, and not just down to normal wear and tear. For this to happen, you'll probably need to get independent verification that the strap was badly made. If successful, the store should refund you any costs you've incurred in getting this verification. They can replace, repair or part refund. Personally I think a repair seems most sensible, but it's not for me to judge. Go back to Harvey Nicholls and remind them of their obligations under the SOGA."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Yes, the materials and craftsmanship should be better in comparison to a £20 pair of new look shoes.0 -
So Harvey Nics have sent photos to Jimmy Choo and they won't replace them but it looks like I will foot the bill for repairs. If I had worn these shoes into the ground then yes fine but I've not! What if I pay for them to break again?! How do I get a free repair? Language to use please!!0

Read fluffnutter's post as it is what you need to understand.
You either prove they were inherently faulty or you have to pay for the repair (and any subsequent ones)
If you can prove they were inherently faulty then the cost of the report will be reimbursed and a repair, replace or refund will result.0 -

How would a cobbler prove there has only been 10 wears?0 -

Clearly they wouldn't, but they could (as tinkerbell28 says) "be able to tell if the shoes have been worn into the ground" - or not.0 -
Reminds me of the kind of dresses I occasionally bought as a teenager. Looked pretty but one wash and it looked like piece of rag.
These are fine leather Italian fashion shoes, probably, and as such probably meant for decorative adornment and delicate use, they are fashion shoes despite the high price you paid, I agree with hintza,.0
