I'm with Virgin Mobile PAYG and treated myself to a new phone in March 2013 which came with a New Sim Card I liked the new number and swapped all my contacts over to the new number. Virgin sent a text to me confirming my account was closing today and save all details etc??? I have just spent the last 40 mins confirming sign on's serial numbers, details etc with them trying to sort it as I had not closed it  :(Looking like someone has stolen my number by apparently hacking into my Virgin Mobile Account online and transferring the number to a new network (at least that's what Virgin are telling me tonight) They have transferred my credit to my old number and have promised to let me know by e-mail more details. Is there anything I can do or should be doing about this ? Am I at risk in any way? I have tried signing on to the Virgin Mobile Website this evening but it has denied me access should I take this further? As you can imagine I am very very annoyed about this .....:mad::mad: and now have to sort out contacts at hospitals, doctors etc who contact me text with appointments ..not to mention all my friends and family any advice would be grateful .. I feel that I am so annoyed I'm not thinking straight

Sounds like rubbish to me. For someone to have stolen your number by PACing it out to another network they would have had it activated themself at the time they ported it out on their own SIM. Sounds like the agent just made anything up to answer the query.

As far as I was aware the number belongs to the network only and can be withdrawn although this does seem like a mistake and not a deliberate decision by them. Could it be that Virgin accidentally cut your services off in error and theyre passing the buck?

Earthworm, Thank you for your reply :) I agree with you it does seem like an error somewhere on Virgins part. Since I posted last evening I have calmed down a bit and tried to think things through and my first thoughts would be how would anyone know what phone network the number was with ? The guy I spoke with told me that it had been requested (they thought me) to be cancelled with them and transferred to another network, the request was supposedly done online ....which then means someone had taken my sign on and security. In fact I never used that sign on other than when I purchased the new phone. They even asked for the serial number on the sim as if it was me that had a fake card :mad:when in fact it came with the phone.....
As you say rubbish excuses. I don't intend to fade away and forget about this. I'm not after compensation but detailed answers. I will now have to spend considerable time and money to update all my contacts. Just to say it has been stolen is not good enough.

defiantly sounds like they screwed up somewhere and just passing the blame.

Why would anyone want to hack into someones account just to get access to a number.

althou its not impossible, it does seem very unlikely to happen

Have you tried ringing the number to see if it's live and anyone answers ?

Do you still have your original SIM card? If you were careless with this, it could well explain what has happened - and why!

Cycrow and Silk Thank you both for your replies :)

Yes I have tried ringing the number last evening and this pm ...just a message saying the phone is switched off send a text or try later. As you say why would anyone want to hack an account just for a phone number although I do think the last six digits are almost repetitive and would be easy to remember or possibly good for use as a business number.

I am about to write a letter to Virgin as I don't intend to let the matter go without explanation....will see what they have to say about it :undecided

Buzby Forgot to say yes I have both Sim cards they have never been out of my possession.
