I'll be honest i'm gluten intolerant, and south america i have left out because i don't know about there catering
.
I know about the others through research and asia's staple food is rice just need to avoid the soy sauce really.
MACHU PICCHU sounds good, and argentna and Brazil, I'll do some research on prices and food and ask trailfinders.
Yeah flexible dates is a must, Be good if i could time it all with a once a year event in some countries (like calgary stampede next summer)
It was on my mind south america, not so interested in Africa apart from the safari but thats only because i haven't looked into much.

If you are looking at Brazil next year then remember it's the World Cup so, depending on whether you like football or not, could be a good or bad thing. It will probably mean that prices will be higher than usual though.
The attraction for South America (never been there myself - yet) is that it is still relatively undiscovered. Absolutely everyone does SE Asia which means that while it is easy to get around and there are always people to meet, it can be hard to really get off the beaten track and do something different.0 -
Wouldn't mind tring to climb a mountain, mt Fuji looked great when i went in December from below, but you weren't allowed to climb because it was not the right weather then.
Are there any travel insurance companies to definitely avoid? I had Barclays last year and they were really helpful and quick when i put in a claim0 -
Try to have some flexibility built in, some places you will love and others hate.
I had originally planned for 3-4 months in Australia, I scarpered after 3 weeks back to thailand and vietnam.
In hindsight 3 weeks was too long for me.0 -
Make sure that you take a small wad of $US, preferably in small denominations.
I've lived and worked in many countries around the world, and have yet to find one where US currency won't be accepted (especially by airport taxi drivers).
This was even the case in places such as Libya where in some parts there was an extremely strong anti-American feeling.
If for some reason you end up somewhere without any local currency, a few $s may well get you to a hotel or other place until you can get sorted out.0 -
Yes, an emergency wad of US Dollars is always a good idea. A $10 or $20 bill has got me out of a few pickles around the world (It's amazing what doors a few bucks can open) and $1 bills are useful for tips when you are jet lagged and haven't got your head around the local currency - it's so easy to be out by a factor of 10 when you aren't familiar with the notes.0

Nepal, one of the best experiences was trekking in Nepal. We did a 14 day trek to Everest base camp, challenging, beautiful, fun. I'll happily recommend our local tour group http://www.treknepal.com/ we just booked in Kathmandu. You can do it alone, but a group tour is much easier and knowing there is a bed in the next village helps on those steep days!!
