did you tell them it was commercial waste? And if so are they going to give you a waste disposal certificate? If not and you get found out you are leaving yourself open to all kinds of problems.

It may only be cardboard but it is commercial waste, genuine businesses have to pay to dispose of their waste properly, why should you not have to?

Yes they know its commerical waste. They seem to be a big company so don't think a waste disposal certificate is a problem. This isn't a huge amount, so around a car back seats full of boxes stacked up.

Its going to be recycled not put in a landfill.

Honestly some of the business charges are ridiculous, its the businesses who pay the most taxes, if it wasn't for them, there would be no money to the council/governments.

I took to the local recycling centre and they told me bog off as it was business waste
and there would have been big signs up saying it was for household not business waste.
Op, as you have asked this within the Business section of the forum, does this mean that the cardboard boxes etc are from an ongoing business? If so you should really be registered with your LA to have 'business collections' as you could get into serious issues if found to use the domestic waste system. You should also adhere to strict storage controls.
I have heard of businesses being fined for not having the correct disposal systems in place.
I know the OP (thinks he) has found a solution, but your business waste collections do not have to be organised via the LA. There are a number of other national and local collectors. Before signing up with any of them, do a search of this board though: there's one which doesn't have too good a reputation ...

Also you'll almost certainly have to separate your waste: you can shop around for different collectors.

If you have any 'business waste' other than the cardboard, OP, I'd look for a proper solution, btw. It is entirely true that Environmental Health can knock on the door of a business and demand to see evidence that you have proper arrangements for waste disposal.
If however you are a charity some LA's allow you to use the domestic waste system if you register with them.
    I wish ...

Someone on freecycle wants them as they cut them up and use them as protective packaging. Have also contacted 3 recycling companies local who all said I can drop them off at them free of charge. Thank god

Give them to your local grocery store. A thread about cardboard boxes, and it actually turned out interesting. well, i never.
  • I'm not in the slightest bit surprised someone on Freecycle wants them. Lots of people want cardboard boxes for various purposes. I sell stuff on eBay and I'm always on the lookout for good reusable packing materials going free, e.g. cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, polystyrene etc.

Have you tried selling them on ebay ? I've seen lots of used cardboard boxes for sale on there. People re-use them for posting stuff. A quick search on ebay reveals 840 listings for used cardboard boxes. Why give them away when you can profit ? (It is business after all!)

I am constantly on the look out or cardboard boxes as I go through them like there's no tomorrow packaging my products to be posted so I'm sure there are lots of other people local to you who will gladly take one of your hands - unless you are local to me in which case ill be round in a jiffy :rotfl:
