This phone is new to me and I the SD card is installed and formatted. I am trying to find out what is on the card and also how to transfer apps to the card without rooting the mobile.

Can this be done and how, please.

I find that the manual is totally useless, it tells me what I can do but not have to do it!!!

Thanks in advance.

You can't currently transfer apps to the sd card without rooting. You can only use it for music, videos etc.
Apparently that functionality is coming with the next update though.
To find out whats on the card, the only option you have is to do it via a pc.

That all depends on the app, some allow themselves to be transferred.

The S3 already has a file manager as standard which can be used to view the contents of both the internal & external cards.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Really? Since when? The SD card has only ever been able to be used for media files - but if that has changed recently - then I stand corrected.

Agreed - there is a file viewer "My Files" app. - but it's very slow and a very poor substitute for looking at the whole of the SD card on a PC.

I've never found a way of Transferring Apps.

"My Files" works great for me for accessing the Ext SD. Within the App there are settings for the standard folders for:
    Images
    Video
    Music
    Document

That can be transferred to the Ext SD Card. But, it's not 100%.

ie. Music cached from Google "Pay Music", will stay on the Int. Card and some photos, especially form burst shooting, will also stay Internal.

On both my old S2 and this new S3 I have the option in the Application Manager on some apps to "Move to SD"

The file type is of no concern, you can store whatever you like on either the internal or external SD card and that applies to any smartphone.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree.
I'm using an S3, running 4.1.2 / build JZ054K.I9300XXEMG4 - and there is absolutely no way to move apps from the internal memory to the SD card.

    Not all apps support it

If any apps on the S3 do support being moved (which I'm still convinced that you can't on stock Android) - I must just be VERY unlucky - as I don't have a single app that can or shows the option to transfer to the SD card.
Mind you - it's all academic anyway. After a year of use, I still have over 7.5GB left on the internal - all of my photos/music etc are on the SD card.
I tend to have more issue with getting low on RAM. Sadly just another consequence of apps getting more and more power hungry, and Android not being the best at managing the usage etc.

It changed SGS2 move apps to SDCard .
SGS3 no move apps to sd card but some workarounds on ICS .
Reputed next update restores the ability to move apps to sd card .

Mods like Exsd2internal and directory bind look more trouble than they are worth .

One of the problems appears to be that system apps updated via Play store are in effect duplicated . Not got around to having a look at that yet but i know Titanium Backup Pro can convert apps to system apps freeing up space .It can also freeze or remove bloatware .
